All About Mrs. Brunkhorst

When I was little, I remember daydreaming about becoming a teacher and a mother.  God answered both of those prayers in amazing ways!  I know I am so very blessed, as God has given to me two beautiful daughters, two awesome step-children, and I am able to teach the Word of the Lord to eager children every day at this wonderful school!

I was born and raised in Independence, Missouri. I went to school at Messiah Lutheran in Independence, from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade, then attended Fort Osage High School, and graduated in 1992. I am a 1997 graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education.  In 2001, I completed my colloquy classes through Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska.  I have taught five years at Messiah Lutheran in Independence, Missouri, two years at Bethany Lutheran in Overland Park, Kansas, and twenty-three years here at Timothy.  I have taught at the first, second, and third, and fourth grade levels.

I live in Independence with my wonderful husband, Jeff, our beautiful daughter Annabel, and our sweet and ornery dogs, Juno and Lilah!  Our oldest, Avian (27), works for a farmers’ Co-op in Kansas City.  Our son, Konrad (24), works at Barry’s Gym and is living in Portland, Oregon.  Last year, he became a survivor of a brain tumor, and we are so thankful that God has blessed him through that healing process! Our daughter, Emma (24), works as the Academic Coordinator at Kansas City University Osteopathic Medicine. Our youngest, Annabel (20), attends the University of Central Missouri.  She is a junior this year and is studying Elementary Education.   :)

In the last 6 months, my dad was diagnosed with cancer directly tied to the Agent Orange he spread while in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam.  This summer looked a lot different for our family as we have navigated treatments for him and helped my mom with Parkinson’s and dementia. This brings some new challenges this school year, as I learn how to take care of my beloved aging parents, but please know that serving you and your families, and teaching and taking care of your kiddos is my passion and love!  I enjoy it immensely!

As always, things are changing, but I know God is SO GOOD and AWESOME!  I am so very blessed, and thank God daily that He placed me here amongst some of the greatest people I have ever met!  I truly am able to work with my best friends everyday.  That in itself is such a gift.  I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, teaching, playing volleyball, running, hiking in the woods, decorating my home, reading, writing, doing arts and crafts, and collecting antiques. God is SO good!
