 *Our 3rd quarter service project is Lutheran Urban Mission Agency (LUMA) – We will be collecting nonperishable items for their Food Pantry—Our class has set a goal of 200 items!  You can start bringing them in on Monday!  (Please see the attachment.)  Notes are coming home today too!

We worked hard this week:

RELIGION:  This week, we learned all about Jonah!  We discussed how God gives mercy and grace to all people, and the difference between these two words.  We are so thankful that God gives us BOTH!

MEMORY:  Students recited the Lord’s Prayer to me this week, and all of them did fantastic!  We are back on track for Memory Work now.

1/30- Luther’s Evening Prayer : I thank You, my Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have graciously kept me this day;

and I pray You to forgive me all my sins where I have done wrong, and graciously keep me this night.

2/2- For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the wicked foe may have no power over me. Amen.

LANGUAGE ARTS/SOCIAL STUDIES:  We took last week’s spelling test on Tuesday, and will learn new words next Monday.  :)  We learned more about Martin Luther King Jr. this week, read a short biography of his life, and took notes about it.  We also read and listened to “My Brother Martin,”  written by his sister, Christine.  It was a beautiful story!  We watched the Dr. Seuss cartoon “The Sneetches” and related this to the vocabulary and the lessons we have been learning about the last couple of weeks.

SPELLING words for next Thursday, January 25th:  (from “My Brother Martin”) west, steep, member, gleam, fresh, freedom, speed, steam, beast, believe, speck, kept, cheap, pretend, greed, shelf, least, eager, reason, chief, echo, menu, *segregation

MATH:  I do believe we are starting to tackle long division!  WooHoo!  This week, we began discussing remainders and what they are.  We will continue with this next week.

ART:  We finished up our MLK portraits.  They are hanging in the hallway for all to see!   Then, we began working on our auction project.  It is coming along quite well, and will be finished up next week!

Yours in Christ,

Kim
