Hi, 4th Grade Parents! It has been a very busy week, but a fun one! Today, it is the midterm of 2nd quarter, and we will be dismissing at 12:30. Midterm reports will come home on Monday.
*Our VETERANS DAY program was beautiful and wonderful, and it was such a special tribute to our veterans. THANK YOU to all who have served. We are blessed beyond measure to have you protecting us.
My dad and husband came by to meet the kiddos! SO thankful for them and for their service.
*Our 2nd quarter MISSION PROJECT is underway! We are supporting Operation Christmas Child once again! Shoe boxes came home yesterday with directions inside. (Attached are some ideas too!) Please turn in your box anytime between now and November 21st. There are labels inside each shoe box for you to attach to the outside of your box. If you would like to fill more than one, any shoe box will do! THANK YOU for loving our neighbors and helping spread the Good News of Jesus with kids all around the world! Please see this website for more information: https://www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child?utm_source=Ggl&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=m_YGOC-B24V&utm_content=Pack_A_Shoebox&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAudG5BhAREiwAWMlSjENK9glPpNWkVow_XbFfbBggx7DpTErl6sZogr1Dxx7YXNhulP20jhoCiWEQAvD_BwE
*On Tuesday, November 25th, at 11:00, the 4th graders will have their classroom Thanksgiving Feast in lieu of lunch. We will be studying the first Thanksgiving and all about the Pilgrims and Wampanoag. We will also be talking about all the things we, as Christian Americans, should be thankful for! What a wonderful way to praise our Father for all He has given! I will supply the turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy, but if you are willing to send in some “extras” it would be mighty appreciated! Please take a look at the sign-up if you are able! (I have several outlets in our classroom for crock pots, if needed.) Thanks so much for your help!
*Please be on the lookout for details about our Breakfast in Bethlehem - Saturday, December 6th 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.!
Here is what we have been up to this week:
RELIGION- This week, we discussed Jeremiah and Ezra and how they relied on God's wisdom to lead the people. Next week, we will start to dissect God's commandments for us, and how they apply to our everyday lives.
MEMORY for Next Week:
11/18-THE FIFTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not murder. What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not hurt or harm our neighbor in his body, but help and support him in every physical need.
11/21-THE SIXTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not commit adultery. What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we lead a pure and decent life in what we say and do, and husband and wife love and honor each other.
LANGUAGE ARTS- We read the chapter book, “Molly’s Pilgrim,” by Barbara Cohen. This is a story about an immigrant from Russia, who learns all about the first Thanksgiving and what it means to be an American. We had a lot of great discussions about our country, and what a blessing it is to be citizens of the United States. We worked with compare/contrast, predicting, and timelines. Next week, we will learn all about the first Thanksgiving!
SPELLING WORDS for Friday, November 21st: Plymouth, Thanksgiving, praise, compact, Mayflower, pumpkin, barter, America, holiday, settlement
Challenge Word: conundrum
MATH- We have been learning how to multiply with two- and three-digit numbers this week. This is a new skill, so it has taken some practice, but we are getting the hang of it! We are working on our 8’s in mad minutes.
SOCIAL STUDIES- This week, we learned about the Northeast states and all of the treasures that they have to offer!
ART- We drew and colored Wampanoag Art. The projects are beautiful!
MUSIC- We practiced Christmas songs for our upcoming program!
COMPUTERS- We worked on publishing our fairytales today in the computer lab.
WRITERS’ WORKSHOP- We learned how to write proper paragraphs using the "hamburger style." We will continue this practice next week.
P.E.-We began our basketball unit and learned three different types of passing-chest pass, bounce pass, and overhead pass. We also learned how to dribble.
SPANISH- Students learned how to say the parts of the body in Spanish.
*Thank you so much for your prayers for my family this week. I am sure the kiddos shared with you, but my stepson, Konrad, is in the hospital. He lives and works in Portland, OR, right now. He had a seizure the other day, and it was discovered that he has some bleeding on his brain. Doctors are trying to figure out the best course of action. Our Timothy family and how we lift each other up in prayer is such a blessing... God is good. Thank you SO much...
Have a blessed weekend,
Kim Brunkhorst
