God's Blessings to you!

God's Blessings to you!  I pray that you are well and that you had a good week!  This flu season has been rough on our class and on our school.  I pray the weekend brings healing.

Palm Sunday Illustrations

Reminders:
***Our students, Kindergarten-5th grades, sing at church this Sunday for Palm Sunday!  Please have your child meet in the music room at 8:45. We will proceed with palm branches and singing to the front of the church, where we will then share another song.  We will be singing at the beginning of the 9:00 am service and at the beginning of the 10:30 service.  I hope to see you there!  Thank you!

*** We still need a few drivers to drop us off at the School of Economics on Tuesday.  We will leave school at 9:10 and just need to be dropped off.  After the event, we will be heading back to school with parents that are volunteering that day.  If you can, thank you!  Please sign up here:

*HEIT’S POINT came and visited us this week and shared with us some information about their upcoming summer camps!  If you have never been down to Heit’s Point Lutheran Camp in the Lake of the Ozarks, it is beautiful, breathtaking, and so much fun!  Check it out!   (I know they offer scholarships for some of their camps too!) https://sites.google.com/view/heitspointlutheran
Here is what we have been up to in the classroom:
RELIGION- We discussed Palm Sunday, The Last Supper, the Garden of Gethsemane, and Jesus Before the Council this week.  We read straight from God’s Word and also watched some wonderful reenacting of these verses.  Discussing Holy Week has been very eye-opening and educational for us, as many kiddos have had a lot of questions.  We have had some great discussions about the sacrifice that Jesus made for us, and how we deserve eternal punishment for our sins.  Instead, we get to live FOREVER in heaven with Him!  Praise God!  We will learn about Good Friday next week.
MEMORY-We will not have Memory next week, or the following Tuesday.  For our next Memory Work, we will be memorizing the old hymn, "I am Jesus Little Lamb."
4/10-I am Jesus Little Lamb
I am Jesus' little lamb,
Ever glad at heart I am;
For my Shepherd gently guides me,
Knows my need and well provides me,
Loves me ev'ry day the same,
Even calls me by my name.

LANGUAGE ARTS- We read the story,  “A Very Important Day,” which correlated directly to our School of Economics unit.  We discussed the many families in the story, what countries they came from, and more details about them.  We worked with possessive and apostrophes this week, as well as cause and effect, and chronological order. We learned about Ellis Island and citizenship!  We will not test over new spelling words next week.  March book reports are due Monday!
MATH- You should see the learning happening here!  This week, we discussed linear measurement and learned the formulas for area and perimeter.  We solved SO many word problems using these new skills!  We also review long multiplication this week and are still striving to finish up mad minutes.
SCIENCE- New knowledge is being built in Science too, as we have been discussing insect structures and have begun a fun projext where we are creating our own arthropods.  We will "build" models of these next week!  We tested out our "bug glasses" and discussed simple and complex eyes.

SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS- We met as shops and filled out pricing guides, learned how to write checks, and how to count back change this week!  We are READY!
Special Classes:
Art- We began drawing Crowd and Action pictures this week!  We discussed crowds, expressions, skin tones, and what they might be doing.  For our athletic events, we have baseball games, volleyball games, soccer, and swimming.  We discussed what a body in motion or action looks like.  We will take some time to finish these up!
Writers' Workshop- We had three writing assignments about "The Very Important Day."  We went through the writing process and will publish these next week.
Music- Students have been practicing their songs for Palm Sunday!
Computer Lab-We published our Writers' Workshop writing assignments, using Google Docs.
P.E.- We began track events—conditioning and the running long jump!
Spanish-Students participated in a contest for finding "more or less" and "closest and farthest" in Spanish.
Have a beautiful weekend!
God's Blessings,
Kim
