Hi, parents! We had another wonderful week!
Events:
*We had visitors from Spark Ventures this week and the country of Zambia! They visited with us to show us pictures and videos of their homeland and how they are spreading the Gospel message there. Each kiddo received a bookmark created by a student in Zambia, and a handout about Spark Ventures. You can learn more about it here: https://hope4jokids.org/
*Please sign and return the bottom portion of your child's mid-term that was sent home two weeks ago. To see missing work, please look on Sycamore and encourage your kiddo to get that missing work in! Thank you for your help. :)
*NWEA MAP Growth Spring Testing is next week--April 28 – April 30!!
It is time for our Spring NWEA MAP Growth testing! Optimize your child’s brain power by planning a calm, low-key evening prior to testing days, making sure students get enough sleep, and making sure they eat a good breakfast each day. Thank you!
*BOOK REPORTS-4th graders have received information about their May book reports. We are going to make Bio Lap books, and each kiddo has the directions and a colored file folder to get started. These are in back packs. First off, they need to read their biographies and take notes! We will be working on these during Writers' Workshop next week too, so please make sure the supplies stay in backpacks. Thank you. These are due May 9th.

Here is what we have been up to this week:
RELIGION: We read from the Bible the stories of Easter, Mary Magdalene going to the tomb, Jesus appearing to His disciples and Thomas, and Jesus' Ascension. We discussed true peace, the kind that surpasses all our human understanding, and how we will experience this in fullness when we reach the heavenly kingdom! Praise be to God! When Jesus had completed His earthly work, He returned to heaven, leaving His followers to carry out His mission. We will discuss this in more detail next week as we learn about serving in His kingdom here on earth.
MEMORY: 4/29-”But He said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” ~Luke 11:28
5/2-”For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.” ~Romans 1:16
LANGUAGE ARTS: We read a story which talked about the negative effects of television, electronics, and noise in a funny story called "The World According to Humphrey." We had some giggles from this story, which was told in first-person from the point of view of a hamster, but all-in-all learned the importance of spending quality time with family, friends, and getting exercise.
SPELLING WORDS for next Friday, May 2nd: (from “I Could Do That!”) dentist, final, finish, narrow, shelter, ahead, corner, hollow, divide, famous, recent, silver, capture, cabin, dinner, minus, minute, value, reward, broken, decent, secure, *legislature
MATH: We are working on measurement! We have learned units of capacity, units of weight, and converting units of time. We also had a few more people pass their multiplication test this well! Woohoo! SO PROUD of my kiddos!
SCIENCE: We are back into our Nature Unleashed Science! We discussed the pond, prairie, and forest ecosystems, as well as the specialized structures that God gave the animals that live in these habitats. We were amazed at the badger and his skills, as well as owls and all of the awesome structures God gave him to adapt to his environment. We discussed the internal and external cues that animals have been given that help them change their behavior and allow them to survive. Next week, we will discuss and learn about food chains.
