RELIGION-We finished up learning about the Reformation and Martin Luther with a wonderful feast and a successful Chapel service.  Thank you for coming!  Later this week, we “went back to” the Israelites crossing the Jordan River, and the many complaints they had for God.  They forgot all of His blessings and began to complain about the many gifts He had bestowed upon them.  We talked about how we, too, are just like the Israelites when we are not content and take things for granted.  We thank Him for His forgiveness time and time again!

 MEMORY for Next Week:

11/7- THE SECOND COMMANDMENT-You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.

11/10-What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so we do not curse, swear, use satanic arts, lie, or deceive by His name…

LANGUAGE ARTS-This week, we read the wonderful story about a Japanese immigrant, entitled “Grandfather’s Journey.”  We had great discussions about family and country, and what it means to be an immigrant.  We discussed sequencing and cause and effect.  We shared our “cheeseburger” book reports!  These were great!

COMPUTER LAB-We reviewed our states and capitals in Computer Lab this week, with a fun game!

SPELLING Words for Friday, November 10th:

(from “The Butterfly” by Patricia Polacco)

aunt, women, unusually, village, school, dream, window, confection, soldier, whisper, protect, understand, glorious, children, ditch, precious, squeeze, flutter, iris, shabby, *allegiance

MATH- This week, we worked on finding factors and factor pairs, and also learned how to identify whether a number is prime or composite.  Fourth graders are realizing why it is important to have their multiplication facts memorized, so please continue working with them at home.  We are on our 7’s in mad minutes.  :)

SOCIAL STUDIES- We played Social Studies Jeopardy yesterday and tested over the Regions of the U.S.  today!  The kiddos did well!  Next week, we will review all of the states and capitals, and begin memorizing those.  Then, we will begin Science!   Our first unit will be all about Living Things:  Plants and Animals!

 SPECIAL CLASSES

ART- We created Zentangle Pumpkins—using our knowledge of line, depth perception, and all colors of fall!

MUSIC-Students practiced their song they are singing on Sunday, as well as the songs for the Veterans Day Program.

P.E.- We learned basketball skills this week-dribbling and passing.

WRITERS’ WORKSHOP-We learned what an opinion essay is, and began the drafting process.

Have a wonderful weekend!
