Happy Friday!

Hi, Parents!  It was another great week in 4th Grade Land!  ;)  We are BUSY!

*Thank you for the prayers for my daughter, Annabel, who had her wisdom teeth out today.  I was at home with her, and Ms. MacLean was here with the kiddos.  They did well!

*THANK YOU for contributing to our Angel Tree gifts!  As a class, we went “shopping” and were able to buy a beautiful bed set for a girl and a fun sleeping bag for a boy.  I even had some leftover money that I donated on 4th grade’s behalf toward a Christmas ham or turkey to a family too.

“Be devoted to one another in love.  Honor one another above yourselves”  ~  Romans 12:10

*The students had a great time at the CHRISTMAS STORE this week too!  There were such wonderful gifts there, and I saw them prayerfully take time to pick you out a present.  You will be truly surprised!

*TLS CHRISTMAS/ADVENT SERVICE- “Unto Us” - December 13th at 6:30 pm.  Students need to wear their Christmas best clothes and come to their classroom at 6:00, ready to go!  Each student has a small part that they have been working on.  Mrs. Hatcher would like for this to be memorized. Most are there, but please make sure you ask your kiddo how this is going!  Thank you!

Please invite your family and friends!  All are welcome!

 *ALL-SCHOOL BOWLING AND CAROLING TRIP-ALL STUDENTS INVITED-DECEMBER 19th!

We are SO excited for this!  The whole school will head to Lunar Bowl in the morning.  (Bowling is $5.00 per student and $10.00 per adult.)  We will return to school for lunch.  After lunch, we will be going caroling at Benton House in Blue Springs. Field trip forms came home this week.  Please return these by Tuesday, December 12th.

*POLAR EXPRESS PARTY-4th GRADE STUDENTS INVITED-DECEMBER 20th!  We will be reading books by Chris VanAllsburg, ending with “The Polar Express.”  On the 20th, the kiddos can wear their pajamas to school, (please wear or send tennis shoes too!) and we will watch the movie in the afternoon with some hot cocoa and candy canes!  Blankets and pillows are welcome for this fun day.

Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION- We have begun our posters that proclaim that Jesus is King, the Responsibilities of Citizens of the Kingdom of God, and the Rights and Privileges of Citizens of the Kingdom of God.  We shared and showcased these today!

MEMORY for next week:

12/12- betray him, slander him, or hurt his reputation, but defend him, speak well of him, and explain everything in the kindest way.

 12/15- THE NINTH COMMANDMENT

You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.  What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we do not scheme to get our neighbor’s inheritance or house,  or get it in a way which only appears right, but help and be of service to him in keeping it.

LANGUAGE ARTS- This week, we read the story, “Finding the Titanic,” which had a storyline that followed a survivor's story from 1912, and one that followed when the wreckage was found in 1985.  It was very interesting and full of new knowledge!  Our Scholastic News this week was all about the Titanic too, so it tied right in!  We  learned how to write an outline, and take notes this week too.

SPELLING WORDS for next Friday, December 15th: (from “The Best Little Christmas Pageant Ever”) manger, vain, barge, villain, hymn, hustle, cross, urn, retire, pageant, ancestor, congregation, interrupt, truant, imitation, *vengeance

MATH- This week was another tough week, as we learned how to multiply 2-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers.  We learned the “old-school way,” as well as using an area model and breaking apart numbers to solve.  We are finally getting the hang of this, but will keep working on it to get mastery!  We are working on our 10/11 mad minutes now!

SCIENCE- We learned all about plant and animal cells, and what tissues, organs, and an organ system are.  We also began to talk about how those organs work.  Next week, we will break into groups and study cells more specifically, and begin to classify organisms.

 SPECIAL CLASSES

ART- We created oil pastel nativity scenes.  They are beautiful and hanging in the hallway!

MUSIC-We are working on our Christmas songs for the Advent Service on December 13th.

P.E.- This week, we put dribbling, passing, and shooting into a fun drill!  We also played outside!

WRITERS’ WORKSHOP- We began the planning steps to our personal narratives.  Some of us even started revising and editing.

 Have BLESSED weekend!
