Have a beautiful weekend... :)

Hi, 4th grade parents!  I pray this note finds you well… We have had quite a few sniffles and coughs in here (including me!), so I am praying earnestly to get well, and that you all stay well too!

*We had a BLAST at the musical today, and witnessed some amazing talent!  I am thankful to be able to share this kind of venue with our kiddos.  THANK YOU to all of our helpers and drivers.  It was fun!

*YEARBOOK-It is getting to be that time of year.  I started planning the yearbook.  If you have a great picture, or any picture of the following that can be included in the yearbook, please send it to Yearbook2024@timothylutheranschool.com or to your teacher.  I would greatly appreciate your help.

Here are updates about our classroom:

RELIGION:  This week, we discussed Jesus’ first miracle-turning water into wine.  We talked about how much we trust Jesus, and how God’s miracles happen every day all around us!  For example, our hearts beat more than a hundred thousand times each day!  We breathe more than seventeen thousand times a day!  We are kept safe, have clothes to wear, food to eat…I could keep going and going!  GOD IS SO GOOD!

MEMORY:

2/27-Be still, and know that I am God.  I will be exalted among the nations.  I will be exalted in the earth! ~Psalm 46: 10

3/1-For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. ~John 3:16

LANGUAGE ARTS: We read all about Laura Ingalls Wilder and her family in the short excerpt, “Riding in the Cars,” from the book By the Shores of Silver Lake.  We loved reading this story, which was a little glimpse into our country’s past, as we learned about trains and ways of transportation back in the 1800s.  Our next Author of the Month is Laura Ingalls Wilder, so this gave us a taste of her literature…(and she is a famous Missourian!)  ;)  We also discussed homophones this week, how to analyze a setting in a story, and character development.  Please remind your child that mystery book reports are due next Thursday

SPELLING for next Friday, March 1st: (from the story, “Tomas and the Library Lady”)

pound, howl, jaw, bounce, cause, always, shout, aloud, south, couple, drawn, south, false, proud, frown, sauce, gown, couch, dawn, mount

Challenge Word:  omniscient

MATH:  We are head first into fractions!  This week, we learned what equivalent fractions are, and how to make these by dividing the numerator and denominator by the same number.  Next week, we will work on ordering fractions.

MISSOURI HISTORY:  This week, we talked about the regions in Missouri, and how the major rivers in Missouri (the Mississippi and the Missouri) have helped shaped our state and the jobs that re within it.  We learned the words,

ART:  We learned about the artists Norman Rockwell and Mary Engelbreit, and analyzed some of their art work.  It is beautiful!  We then, talked about how much of their art work could be summarized into their favorite memories.  We took some time to think about our favorite memories, drew pictures of them, and then water colored them.  They turned out beautifully and they definitely the stories of some beautiful favorite memories!

WRITING: We finished up our persuasive essays yesterday.  We shared them in Readers’ Theatre.

P.E.:  This week, we played with the parachute!  We had some fun playing popcorn, washing machine, and show switch.  Ask your kiddo about these!  ;)

MUSIC-The kids have been busy learning songs that incorporate instruments—tambourines, handbells, wooden blocks, and maracas.

COMPUTER LAB-We finished up publishing our persuasive essays.  I will print these out.  We have some kids VERY excited to share these with you!

Yours in Christ,

Kim
