Have a lovely weekend...

Hello, 4th grader parents!  How about this crazy Missouri weather?!  Happy March!

*MORNINGS WITH MOM (or other very special people) is this next Wednesday March 6th, from 7:45-8:25.  Come and have a donut or muffin, a cup of coffee, and play a fun game with your kiddo…or just sit and visit!  Then, if you are able, please join us for Chapel at 8:45.  See you then!

*TLS is hosting next Wednesday’s Dining with Jesus (our Lenten dinner). We start serving at 6:00, with worship starting at 6:30, and finishing up by 7ish.  The pulled pork has been smoked by Mr. Holland – YUM! If you would be willing to help set up, serve, or donate items, please check out this sign-up genius. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080A4EA4AB22A57-48272918-tlslenten.

Even if you can’t serve or donate, please come and join Jesus (and us) for dinner!

*The end of 3RD QUARTER is already on Friday, March 8th!  Goodness!  We have a 1:00 dismissal so we can work on grade cards.  Please make sure your student has all their missing work and corrections turned in by next Friday.  Thank you so much for your help with this!

*If you are out and about this weekend, and you see any notebook paper on sale (wide-ruled), could you please pick us up some?  We are almost out!  Thank you!

*Please pray for our friend, Heidi, who has a fractured ankle.  Thank you!

*YEARBOOK-It is getting to be that time of year.  I started planning the yearbook.  If you have a great picture, or any picture of the following that can be included in the yearbook, please send it to Yearbook2024@timothylutheranschool.com or to your teacher.  I would greatly appreciate your help.

Here are updates about our classroom:

RELIGION:  We discussed Jesus’ infinite wisdom and power, by learning about the miracles of His healing the official’s son, and preaching in Nazareth to people who NEEDED to hear Him.  We all NEED Jesus desperately, and we are so blessed that He is ours and that He loves us!

 MEMORY for next week:

3/5- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ~John 1:1

3/8-For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~Romans 6:23

LANGUAGE ARTS: We shared mystery book reports this week, and learned about our next book reports too—nonfiction!

We also read the story, “Tomas and the Library Lady,” which is the nonfiction story about Tomas Rivera.  We learned some new Spanish words and learned a lot about the Spanish culture too!  We discussed character development, contractions, and antonyms.  Next week, we will be learning about Sacajawea and her contributions to the Corps of Discovery.

SPELLING for next Friday, March 8th (from “Sacajawea”):

million, collect, lumber, pepper, plastic, borrow, support, thirty, perfect, attend, canyon, traffic, fortune, danger, soccer, engine, picture, survive, seldom, effort, *interpreter

MATH:  We finished up our first unit about fractions—how to find equivalent fractions, and how to compare fractions by finding common denominators.  The students took their tests yesterday.  Next week, we will begin Unit 9, which will be adding and subtracting fractions.  We are almost finished with mad minutes too!  Today we took Day 95!  By this time, most kiddos have their facts memorized, and are finishing up their mad minutes (30 problems) in less than 3 minutes!  There are few, however, who are not finishing, and are still really struggling.  Please urge them to practice flash cards and play math games to memorize these!  Finding common denominators and completing long division will be so much easier when they do not need to use a multiplication table.  :)  At the end of the year, in May, we will have a “I Finished my Mad Minutes” Ice Cream Sundae party for those that have their facts memorized.  This will be an after school event, and I will give more details as the time approaches.  My hope is that maybe enticing taste buds will helps some!  ;)

We played some multiplication Bump It! math games today!

MISSOURI HISTORY:  We finished up Chapter 1 in our Missouri History books this week!  We have been discussing the regions of Missouri and the natural resources that can be found there!  We completed the review and will test over this material on Monday.  I have attached the study guide, and here is the link for the Missouri Jeopardy game to help practice:  https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1bSJazZRRNQCU1Ky-_l6G0kwFN2syufS-ctYOXSbx12M/edit?usp=sharing

ART:  We stepped up to the task of completing half of a picture this week.  We each received half of a picture of an animal and to recreate the other half, along with the setting.  Below, are pictures of the finished ones!

WRITING: We finished up our persuasive essays and learned how to write cinquain poems.

P.E.:  We took advantage of this beautiful weather and played outside.  We had several games of kickball and soccer going on, while others played on the swings and the jungle gym.

MUSIC- We used musical sticks to learn how to count to the beat of the music.

COMPUTER LAB-We published our persuasive essays and cinquain poems.

Yours in Christ,

Kim
