Hello! It is hard to believe it is February already! Gee whiz, the school year is flying by! This week, we had several days of a lot of fun!
We celebrated the 100th Day of School on Monday! We had a great time with our 100 Day song, marching around the classroom, listening to the poem “Henry and the 100 Hiccups,” and doing our centers, which included drawing what we will look like when are 100 years old, finding 100 words we can read, writing 100 day poetry, and some probability centers where we flipped a coin 100 times, and ro9lled a die 100 times! This was such a fun day! Make sure you take a look at our folders that are coming home today!
Yesterday, we talked about Groundhog Day! We read a story about Punxatawney Phil, the Fearless Forecaster, and learned a lot of tidbits about groundhogs, their habitats, and characteristics. There are six more weeks of winter!
Today we had our Afternoon of Awesomeness! Girls voted and decided to have a fashion show, wear their pjs, and have a dance party while the boys cleaned, Then once the boys were done, we played dodge ball, played video games, and watched a movie ! It was fun times! Our school raised over $500 this month to send to Joplin!
In Math this week, third grade continued with multiplication, and really concentrated on finding the missing factors. Fourth graders continued on their unit about multiplication and division this week, and solved problems where they had to pick the property they used to solve it.
In Language Arts this week, we began cursive handwriting with the letters “e” and “l.” They are doing great and taking their time! Both groups read stories that were very interesting this week! The third graders read about the dinosaur bones of the albertosaurus, and the fourth graders read about how to train dogs to be helping dogs for people with special needs. Both were very interesting, with neat vocabulary, and new facts. Fourth grade shared their oral book reports this week too! They had to read a historical nonfiction book, dress as a character, and then tell the story from that person’s perspective. They were great! Be on the lookout for pictures of the website! We also worked on our persuasive essays this week, and many of us finished them up and handed them in.
In Religion this week, we learned about Jesus raising the official’s son. We will continue to learn of Jesus’ miracles next week. We talked about how God answers our prayers and requests too, in His own time.
All of the children have expressed some interest in purchasing the devotion book that I use every day for our classroom devotions! They love it! It is a 365 Day Devotion book, and Miss Lydia can get them to you for $5.00 if you would like to purchase one! Please just send the money to school in a labeled envelope, and I will take care of that for you! Thanks!
In P.E. this week, we played Capture the Flag and Pin Dodge Ball! It was “kid request week’” and those are their favorites!
During Art today, we created woven paper hearts! These will decorate our classroom soon. It already looks like pink and red collided in there! We are very ready for February!
We will have our Valentine’s Party on February 14th, in the morning before Speical Classes.
If you have not already signed up for student-led parent/teacher conferences, please let me know what date and time works best for you and will get you signed up! Conferences are February 16th and 17th.
Please Remember: Our Mission Project this year is to raise money to help Martin Luther School in Joplin, MO. Our goal this month is to see who can raise more: Kindergarten through fourth grade OR fifth grade through eighth grade!
Blessings,
Kim Myers
