CLASS LIST:  Kash, Vedder, Olivia, Wylin, Zeke, Jackson, Maddie

Here is what we have been up to in the classroom:

RELIGION- We had some very important lessons this week, discussing Jesus and His miracles and talking about how these are significant to our lives.  We reviewed the stories of "Jesus and the Woman at the Well," "Jesus Calming the Storm," and "Jesus Feeding the 5,000." We discussed things in our own lives that are either sinful or what we consider our "storms."  It was a great conversation, as we shared some personal things. We lifted these up to God, knowing that He is in control of all things.  It is always poignant to me, because I feel that God helps me through these Religion lessons as well.  My dad is not feeling well, and we are in the process with the doctors, trying to navigate that.  God spoke to me right away through his Word by reminding us in Matthew 6--"Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?  So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?"  For me, this was a gentle reminder that we need to stop worrying about all of those little things.  Give them to Him.  God WILL take care of us.
MEMORY-2/10-was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God
the Father Almighty.

2/13-From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

LANGUAGE ARTS- We read the true story, I Can Do That!, which is about Esther Morris. She was the first female judge in the country and a powerful force for getting women the vote in the state of Wyoming.  We had some great conversations about making changes in the world and learning about legislature and how to make laws.  We discussed Cause and Effect, as well as making generalizations.  I also introduced our new Author of the Month, Roald Dahl.  We read The Giraffe, the Pelly, and Me, and had lots of laughs.  Next week, we will begin The BFG.  He was such a creative author, and we are learning a lot of new, fun vocabulary!  ;)
SPELLING WORDS for Friday, February 13th:
Story: Jose! Born to Dance
learn, dirty, worn, sore, thirst, burn, record, cure, board, course, worth, early, return, pure, world, search, worse, thirteen, sport, current, curious, thorough, Challenge Word: aghast
MATH- We tested over Chapter 9 this week (adding and subtracting fractions), and began Chapter 10, where we will be learning about mixed numbers and improper fractions.  We have also been getting better at our mad minutes and decreasing our time taking them!
SCIENCE- We reviewed the parts of the flower and the parts of the seed.  Next week, we will dissect some pinecones!

Special Classes:
MUSIC- Students have been singing songs that correspond with what we have been learning in Religion class.
SPANISH- Students are working on conjugating verbs and learned about subject pronouns.  We are learning SO much from Mr. Murray!
ART- We had several fun art projects this week!  We made woven hearts that are now hanging in our classroom.  We also discussed what year we would each be 100 years old and made portraits of how we may look at that age!  (These are GREAT!)  We also painted fish for Mr. Hollan's door!  His door to his office has the Bible verse, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men."  ~Matthew 4:19. Each fish will have the name of next year's Kindergarteners!  We already have a full class for next year!  Praise the Lord!
WRITERS' WORKSHOP- Students read a selection, “The Role of the Constitution."  We discussed what rights and freedoms are and what duties of citizens might be.  Then, they had two writing assignments where they used the hamburger style paragraph writing.  They had to write about these two things:  What causes change in a community?  and If you created your own law, what would it be?  Why?  We shared these in Readers' Theatre.
Have a great weekend!
Blessings,
Kim

If you or someone you know would like to be an auction sponsor to help defray the costs of the auction, we have various levels and items that can be specifically adopted.

*4th Graders created project that will be auctioned off too!  We studied Psalm 139, focusing primarily on verse 14—“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;  your works are wonderful,  I know that full well.”  We discussed how God created each of us with all of our intricate details and how we are beautiful!  We shared the book, “The Best Part of Me,” and have written our own edition of it.  This is “published,” and up for auction!  To go with this theme, we painted the frame of a mirror, emblazoned with the words “fearfully and wonderfully made.”

Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION: We have studied the stories of “Jesus and the Samaritan Woman” and “Jesus Calming the Storm.”  We read different Biblical Gospel accounts of these stories, and compared them.  We discussed how Jesus showed His power and His mercy in both situations.

MEMORY: 2/11-From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

the holy Christian Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

 2/14-Recite the entire Apostle’s Creed.

MATH:  We covered equivalent fractions and comparing fractions, and how to use fraction bars, number lines, and multiplication/division to find these.  We will finish up this chapter next week.,  We are still going strong on our 12s in mad minutes!

SCIENCE:  This week, we discussed what part of the plant fruits and vegetables are.  For instance, potatoes are roots, celery is a stem, broccoli is a flower, peas are seeds.  We watched a cool video that showed food decomposing, and then starting to sprout again.  :)  We also worked with classifying plants and animals.  With missing a day of school this week, we are a bit behind.  We will review this chapter next Monday, and test next Wednesday.

 Special Classes:

ART:  We made versions of our 100 Year Old selves!  These are precious!  Please come down our hallway to see them!
