Hello, Parents! We have had a great week!
In Religion this week we discussed our Father,
and why we call him our Father. We also discussed Baptism, and how it is
a gift that gives us forgiveness of sin, rescues us from death and the devil,
and gives us eternal life. What an amazing gift! Today we began to
talk about the Creation story, and talked about examples of our Father’s
world. God is SO good!
Memory for Next Week:
November
11- THE EIGHTH COMMANDMENT
You
shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. What does this
mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not tell lies about our
neighbor
Language Arts
We talked about verbs and practiced these all week.
Both groups of readers also read biographies. Third grade read about
young Thomas Edison and fourth graders read about Jose Limon.
These were so interesting! They helped get the children very interested
in biographies… No spelling or reading next week - it’s just a two day week!
We finished up our Halloween stories and will share these
next week during Readers’ Theater.
Information for the 4th grade book reports came
home this week They are reading fantasy books and will be completing a
comic strip project. These are due December 1st. Third graders
should be busy reading their historical fiction book. This break off of
school would be a great time to get caught up on that. Please remind your
child to read at home. Thanks so much!
Math
This week, third grade has continued working on telling time—to
the minute, quarter till and quarter after, elapsed time, and time on a
calendar. Please practice telling time and counting money at home, as
these are both life skills, and some of the children still really struggle with
these concepts. We will also review these chapters next week and test
over them on Tuesday. After this, we will begin our multiplication
units! Fourth grade has been working with creating and reading different
types of graphs. We also learned about stem and leaf plots this
week. They will also test over their chapter next week.
Science
We finished up our unit this week on plants and animals and
tested today. They all did so well! They had so much fun playing
Science Jeopardy in class too…. They showed great sportsmanship and quite a lot
of enthusiasm. I am so proud of them!
Social Studies
Full-Time students will be studying all about the first
Thanksgiving, the history and the story in the next few weeks. We also
will assume roles as Wampanoag Indians or as Pilgrims, and have a Thanksgiving
celebration on November 24th.
Writers’ Workshop/Keyboarding
We finished up our spooky stories this week, and will share
the rest of them next week. We are also finishing up our personal
narratives. Veteran’s Day is November 11th.
We will be talking about Veteran’s Day during this time too,
and writing friendly letters to veterans we know to thank them for their
service. If you know a veteran and would like for us to write to him or
her, please email me that person’s name and address. Thank you! The
kids will love to do this!
Art
We created fall landscapes with crayons and water colors,
creating crayon resist paintings, with beautiful fall colors! We
discussed the terms horizon and landscape.
P.E.
We began basketball this week! We started with basic
skills—passing and dribbling.
Music
The 3rd/4th Grade Choir sings THIS SUNDAY, November 9th at
the South Site. (This is ONLY the 3rd/4th grades, so please
try to be there!) We will be singing one song at the 10:00am service. The
students need to be there by 9:40 in the choir room to warm up. They may dress
nice or wear a Timothy shirt. They have been working so very hard, and
sound beautiful! Thank you so much!
