Here is what we have been
doing this week:
In Religion this week, we have discussed
how Jesus paid the ransom for us, so we are no longer prisoners to sin. We will one day go to heaven to be with Him
forever! We talked a lot about the terms
slave and redeemed. We also have been
dissecting the Lord’s Prayer, and discussing what it means. We have read some amazing devotions this week
too!
Memory for next week:
January 20th-Say the entire Lord’s Prayer.
January 23rd-Beautiful Savior
Beautiful Savior,
King of Creation,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Truly I'd love Thee,
Truly I'd serve Thee,
Light of my soul, my Joy, my Crown.
In Language Arts this
week, the third graders read a story entitled Aero and
Officer Mike. This was a story about
a police officer and his dog, and all that it takes to train him and make him a
special dog that rescues people! It was
really exciting! The fourth graders read
a story entitled The Life and Times of the Ant, and this was also very
informative. We learned more about ants
and the way they live, than we have ever known before! As an assignment each week, your child is to
come home and read their selection out loud. They can just read a part of the
story out loud and the rest silently, if this is more their style. I have told them that they can read to you,
their siblings, their pets, or their mirror, but they need to read out loud for
practice. This will help them with the
words, and also with their comprehension, and reviewing the story. We have a test over each selection on Fridays. Please encourage your child to do this each
week! We will be having a special
whole-class story and spelling words next week about Martin Luther King Jr.
We began cursive! We have learned how to make
the lower case and upper case of the letters, A, B, and C. We have some of our work hanging in the
hallway.
Spelling for next week (both classes):
redo
treatment
rebuild
discolor
careless
dislike
sickness
beautiful
unlucky
awful
reread
unsure
movement
peaceful
unpaid
distrust
kindness
useless
displease
powerful
Challenge Word: discrimination
In Math, third graders worked with
multiplying by 9, 11, and 12, and using word problems and equations to
solve. Fourth graders worked with
multiplying with 2 and 3 digit numbers and with zeroes. Please keep working with your child on his or
her multiplication facts! Our class
goal, is to have everyone memorize their facts by the middle of May and we will
take a trip to Winstead’s for skyscraper sodas—my treat! We can do this!
In Social
Studies, we have learned about the different regions of the United
Sates and have begun to learn about landforms and bodies of water. We discussed our landforms and climate here
in the Midwest, and shared some stories.
With Scholastic News, we learned about the volcanoes in Hawaii. We will take a short break from this next
week as we learn about the life of Martin Luther King Jr.
During Art we created beautiful
snowflakes and have turned them into snowflake snowmen. They are awesome!
P.E. this week
was scooter mania! We had relays with
scooters, and lots of fun! Next week, we
will attempt scooter soccer. J
For Writers’ Workshop, we reviewed the
parts to the friendly letter and began writing letters to our new preschool pen
pals from the ECC> We are so excited
for this. We will continue this
practice. Your child may ask you for
someone that they can write to out of state or father awasy next week. We will practice addressing envelopes
too. Thank you for your help with
this! In P.E. this week,
we played with scooter! We had relays and races.
In
Music this week, we practiced our National Lutheran Schools Week
song that we will be singing in church on January 25 and February 1st.
Next week, we will begin recorders!
Yeah!
