Newsletter 2-13-15

Dear Parents,
Happy Valentine’s Weekend!  We had a lot of fun this week talking about God’s infinite love…and how truly amazing that is!  J  Today we partied it up with valentines, snacks (Thank you, Alayna and Courtney! YUM!) mad libs, and silly fortune telling!  (Ask your kiddos about that one.)  I was so happy to have so many of our home-school friends here too.  We have such an amazing class!
It was wonderful meeting with you at conferences.  All of the children are working hard and were/are super-excited to share with you their progress and projects.  Thank you for coming!

Reminders:
·         No School on Monday for President’s Day!
  • Achievement Testing is the week after next! (Feb. 23-27)  Home-school families are more than welcome to come each day for this testing!  We will be testing just in the mornings.  Home school students are welcome to stay for lunch or be picked up at noon.  In the afternoons of this week (M/W/F only, since we’ll still have specials classes on Tu/Th), it's my hope to have Religion, D.E.A.R. Time, continue on our new Science unit, and also get the kids working on our Trivia Night live auction item.   We will not have a lot of homework at all!  For your child’s best success, you may want to consider the following:
*A good night’s sleep!  This is the week to get lots of rest!
*A good breakfast!  A hungry tummy can be really distracting.
*Healthy snacks - students are welcome to munch on something healthy between tests to keep up their energy and focus
*Water - keeping your brain hydrated is a smart idea, too!
*Activities for fast finishers – their book report book, crossword puzzles, or magazines—nothing that will be distracting to other students.

  • Enrollment forms have been issued to all current students.  Enrollment will open up to new families soon.  Please send your forms back in as soon as possible to reserve your spot for next year!

  • Our ECC and School are sponsoring the Lenten supper on Wednesday, March 4.  We will be serving pizza, salad, and cookies.  If you are willing, we would like a $5 donation toward costs, as well as one dozen cookies.  We will have student artwork on display for our congregation to see.  We’re excited for this opportunity to be more visible to our church!  Thank you for your help!!

  • Aside from the class trivia art project, which we will be working on in school art, our class is sponsoring a Cardinals basket!  If you are able and willing, you can send in anything to go in this basket that has anything to with the Cardinals, St. Louis, birds, etc., anything will be fine!  Thank you for help with this.

Here is what we have been up to:
In Religion this week, we talked about how much Jesus loves us, and how we are heirs of the Kingdom because of that love and sacrifice.
Memory for next week:
February 17- and I pray You to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and; life may please You.

February 20-For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things.   Let Your holy angel be with me, that the wicked foe may have no power over me. Amen.

In Language Arts this week, we also read two amazing stories: “The Albertosaurus Mystery” and “The Right Dog for the Job.”  We are also studying Beverly Cleary and reading her Caldecott Honor book, “Ramona and Her Father.”

During Math his week, third graders worked more with dividing 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, and 5’s.  Fourth graders worked with multiplying 3-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers, and tested over these skills.  Next week, they will begin longer division!  Please keep practicing those math facts…our Winstead’s Trip is quickly approaching!  We can do this!

We tested during Social Studies this week!  All of the students did well…and learning about communities was so much fun!  Next week, we will begin our next Science unit about plant and animal life cycles.

Here is what we did during Specials this week:
Art-we created woven hearts to use as our valentine holders and to use for cards for you!
Music-we practiced our recorders and had our second and third Recorder Karate sessions.  They are doing great!  Please urge your child to practice at home…
P.E.-we practiced tumbling, and play Man From Mars.  J
Writing-We continued writing persuasive essays.  They will work on drafting and publishing next week.  We also need to focus on finishing up old stories.  This is something we can continue the following week while doing achievement tests.
