It has been a great week... :)

Hello, Parents!  This has been such a humbling week, as we have honored our Veterans.  Our program today was beautiful and well-attended.  There have been pictures and stories pouring in…and I have been so inspired, moved, and honored to be a part of this celebration and of our amazing country, among these heroes.  I thank God for each and every one of our veterans.  THANK YOU for the time and commitment you have given to all of us.  John 15:13--
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

Wednesday was a neat day for us too!  We spent the morning with our dads during Donuts with Dad, and I think we had our best turnout ever!  Thank you for coming!  Then, we headed over to the north site to witness a truly remarkable performance by the Children of the World.  They were amazing, and so, so cute!  I was moved to tears (it does not take much for this teacher/mom), but it also reminded me of how very blessed we are here…and sometimes it takes meeting someone else to make us realize that we are called to take care of one another.  They did a beautiful job!  I love the conversations that took place in our classroom when we came back, too.

On Monday, we had a special K9 presentation given by the Blue Springs Police K9 Unit for our entire school.  It was awesome!

I forgot to let you know this:  The numbers are all in… From our Chipotle fundraiser, we received over $1,000!!  From our school auction, over $20,000!!  To God be the praise and the glory!  Wow!!  THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!!

Operation Christmas Child: We will be having out shoebox packing party on Monday afternoon! We needed items by today, but we are very short, so feel free to go shopping this weekend and bring items on Monday too.
You may send in:
•             Items to fill shoe box gifts
•             Complete shoe box gifts
•             Empty shoe box size boxes
•             Monies to defray shipping costs

Also, we only go to school Monday and Tuesday of next week, AND Monday and Tuesday of the following week!  Next week, teachers are meeting in southern Missouri for our Lutheran Teacher’s Conference,  and the following week is Thanksgiving Break!  Whew!

Here is what we have been up to in the classroom:

Religion- We have been learning about Samson, Hannah, and Samuel.  God keeps His promises!

Next week’s memory:
November 14-THE FIFTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not murder.  What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we do not hurt or harm our neighbor in his body, but help and support him in every physical need.

Language Arts- We will have spelling words next week, but we will not test on them until the following Tuesday.  J  We will be having a special unit about the first Thanksgiving.  This week, we have been reading in “Stuart Little” in our Literature Circle groups, and have also enjoyed hearing all about Christmas in “Little House in the Big Woods.”  (We enjoyed peppermint sticks while we read!)

Spelling Words—Test: November 21st
Plymouth, Thanksgiving, Pilgrims, compact, Mayflower, pumpkin, barter, America, holiday, settlement, *Wampanoag

Math- We have been working with multiplying with zeroes, discussing whether or not we need exact answers or estimates with word problems, and reviewing Chapter 3.  We will take a test next week, and then move onto multiplying with 2-digit numbers.  J

Science- We worked on our plant and animal cell posters.

Social Studies-We talked about Veteran’s Day, and learned about the history of it.  Next week, and the following, we will learn about the Pilgrims and the Wampanoags as we talk and read about the first Thanksgiving.  Our class will have a feast on Tuesday, November, 21st.  I will supply the turkey, if you could send in the rest of the fixin’s!  Here is the link to sign up: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4dadab2da7f58-thanksgiving

SPECIAL CLASSES
Art- We worked on beautiful flags!  We painted flags, then glued on words that we chose from magazines that answered this question, “What does America mean to you?”  We hung these up in the lobby for our Veterans Day celebration!
Writing-We practiced our friendly letter skills by writing letters and drawing pictures for Veterans.
P.E.- We played 4 Quadrants Dodgeball--what a fun game!
Music- We have been working on recorders, songs for Veterans Day, and songs for the Christmas program!

God’ s Blessings,
Kim
