Happy Weekend!

It has been a fun-filled, busy week!

 Important information:

*We are going to have a classroom Polar Express party next Tuesday, December 22nd.  :)  Homeschool friends are invited to come too!  This is one of my favorite 3rd/4th grade traditions!  Students can wear their pajamas to school, and bring one pillow and/or a blanket.  We will spread the desks apart, and watch the movie!  Shhh…as a surprise, I am bringing mugs, hot chocolate, marshmallows, and candy canes to enjoy during that awesome “hot chocolate” scene!  Please also have your child wear/bring tennis shoes that day, as we will take a break to have some recess.  Thank you!  We have a 1:00 dismissal that day.

Here is what we have been up to in the classroom:

Religion- This week, we have been discussed what we should pray for, how to pray, and how God delivers us from evil, and helps us not to get tempted.  We studied the stories of Daniel and the Lions and Den, as well as Jesus getting tempted by Satan.  We talked about ways in which the devil tempts us, and how we can use God’s Word to defend ourselves.

 Memory for next week:

12/22- THE NINTH COMMANDMENT

You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.  What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we do not scheme to get our neighbor’s inheritance or house,  or get it in a way which only appears right, but help and be of service to him in keeping it.

Language Arts- This week, as a class, we read the funny, beautiful story of “the Best Christmas Pageant Ever!”  We had so many laughs in here, as we heard about the Herdmans and all of their awful antics.  By the end of the story, we had a great discussion about God works in mysterious ways, and how the Herdmans found Jesus.  We LOVED this story!  This week, we also worked with listening skills, Venn diagrams, idioms, and learned cursive p and r.  We will not have spelling next week!

Math- Third graders worked with inverse operations this week and with multiplication and division word problems.  Fourth graders are working with 2 and 3-digit multiplication problems, word problems, and multiplying across the zeroes.  Both groups will test over their chapters on Monday.  Today, we reviewed, played Beat the Clock, and Division Squares.

Science- This week we worked with classifying animals by using their structures and characteristics.

 SPECIAL CLASSES

Art- We created Christmas presents for you!

Writing- We worked on persuasive essays and made you Christmas cards for you!

Computer Lab-We practiced our spelling words on Spelling City.

Music- We sang Christmas carols and watched our program!

P.E. – We continued learning about basketball: shooting and free throws.

Spanish- We learned about Feliz Navidad!  The kids talked about the “Legend of the Poinsettia” and “The Nativity.”

May God bless your weekend,

Kim
