Please take a look at upcoming events and what we have been doing here in the classroom:
*Next Tuesday, November 25th, at 11:00, the 4th graders will have their classroom Thanksgiving Feast in lieu of lunch. We have been studying the first Thanksgiving and all about the Pilgrims and Wampanoag. We will also be talking about all the things we, as Christian Americans, should be thankful for! What a wonderful way to praise our Father for all He has given!
*Just a reminder that we will only have school on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
*Christmas Wonderland Student Store-The students get to shop for Christmas gifts here at school! The preview day is Decembe 2nd and the shopping day is December 3rd. More information will be coming home soon!
*PTL's Breakfast in Bethlehem - Saturday, December 6th -9:00 - 11:00 a.m.! Enjoy a delicious pancake and sausage breakfast, then walk through stations that bring the Christmas story to life—Discover the wonder of Jesus' birth!
*Our students will be singing and leading the Advent Service on December 17th at 6:30 pm. Our program is called, "The Light Has Come!" Please plan to be here, as the kiddos have been working hard and are so excited to share the Good News of our newborn Savior with you! We respectfully ask that students come dressed in their Christmas best. We are grateful for your partnership in helping our students present the joyful message of our Savior’s birth with adoration and joy! Thank you!
*Update on my son, Konrad: He is back home in his apartment in Portland. 🙂 He is on medication for seizures and will have radiation treatments beginning next week. Thank you for your prayers! I am thankful to God for His mighty Hand and guidance of the doctors.
RELIGION-This week, we studied in detail the 1st and 2nd commandments and their meanings. We have discussed putting God first and foremost in our lives, and the challenges of this sometimes. We reviewed the stories of Abraham and Isaac, of the three men in the fiery furnace, of David and Goliath, and of Daniel and the Lions' Den. These are all wonderful examples of people in God's Word putting God and His will first in their lives.
Upcoming MEMORY-
11/25-THE SEVENTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not steal. What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not take our neighbor’s money or possessions, or get them in any dishonest way, but help him to improve and protect his possessions and income.
12/2- THE EIGHTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not tell lies about our neighbor,
12/5- betray him, slander him, or hurt his reputation, but defend him, speak well of him, and explain everything in the kindest way.
LANGUAGE ARTS/SOCIAL STUDIES- We have learned all about the first Thanksgiving this week—All about the Pilgrims and Wampanoags, why the Pilgrims came to America, what their lives were like, and how they worshipped God and took care of their families. We talked about the Wampanoags, their traditions, and the peace treaty with the Pilgrims. We read the story, “On the Wide, Dark Sea,” to learn more about the pilgrims’ adventures, hardships, and what they endured. We are so thankful to be a part of this great country! So many facts—our noggins are full! 😊 (November book reports are due December 1st.)
We will not have spelling words next week, but here are our SPELLING WORDS for Friday, December 5th:
Story: Sacajawea
million, collect, lumber, pepper, plastic, borrow, support, thirty, perfect, attend, canyon, traffic, fortune, danger, soccer, engine, picture, survive, seldom, effort
Challenge Word: interpreter
MATH-We have been working SO hard solving 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication. We have taken a few extra days to make sure all students understand the process, and I think we are "getting" it! We will test over this chapter next week and begin learning about long division after Thanksgiving Break. We are on our 8's in multiplication mad minutes. The kiddos are realizing the importance of having these facts memorized when trying to solve these large multiplication problems! Please keep working on those flash cards at home. Thank you for your help with this!
SPECIAL CLASSES
ART-This week, we created our own "Molly's Pilgrims" from clothespins, fabric, pipe cleaners, and hot glue. For some, this was a challenge, and others had a lot of fun! They are very original! (Thank you, Debbie and Gary, for the supplies!)
MUSIC-We are working on our Christmas songs for the Advent Service! Every time I pick the kiddos up from music class, they sound SO beautiful and we hum the tunes the rest of the afternoon!
P.E.- This week, we learned how to shoot! We practiced free throws and lay-ups.
WRITERS’ WORKSHOP- We wrote about what our families do on Thanksgiving. It was fun to hear about traditions your families have!
SPANISH-The Spanish names of body parts, people in our families, and how to ask questions.
Have a blessed weekend!
Kim
