Hi, all! We have had a great week! Thank you for your donation to our Angel Tree gifts. We were able to buy a 10 year old girl a cool, pink remote control car, and give a 10 year old boy a gift card to Game Stop. We wrote letters of Christ's love in Christmas cards that we attached to the gifts. :)
Please take a look at upcoming events (SO MANY!):
*On Monday, the preschoolers will present their Christmas Program at 6:00 pm here at school. It is entitled, "Christmas Around the World."
*On Tuesday, the band will be having their Christmas band performance at 6:30 pm. They are amazing, so please come and join us for a great performance!
*Our students will be singing and leading the Advent Service THIS Wednesday, December 17th at 6:00 pm. Our program is called "The Light Has Come!" Please plan to be here, as the kiddos have been working hard and are so excited to share the Good News of our newborn Savior with you! We respectfully ask that students come dressed in their Christmas best. We are grateful for your partnership in helping our students present the joyful message of our Savior’s birth with adoration and joy! Please have students meet in classrooms at 5:30. Thank you!
*4th Grade POLAR EXPRESS PARTY-Thursday, DECEMBER 18th! We will be reading books by Chris VanAllsburg, ending with “The Polar Express.” On this day, the kiddos can wear their pajamas to school, (please wear or send tennis shoes too!) and we will watch the movie in the afternoon with some hot cocoa and candy canes! Blankets and pillows are welcome for this fun day.

After lunch, we will be going caroling at local nursing homes. Permission slips came home on Tuesday. Please get these in by Monday. Drivers will be needed for both events, so please mark your calendars. Thank you!
*Our first home basketball games are next Friday, December 19th as well. Please come cheer on the Rams, if you are able!

Here is what we have been up to in the classroom:
RELIGION-We discussed the birth of John the Baptist and how he was a “forerunner” for Jesus. We reviewed the 7th, 8th, and 9th commandments and how they relate to our lives by reviewing the Bible stories of Zacchaeus (Luke 19: 1-10), Achan (Joshua 7), Saul, David, and Jonathan (1 Samuel 18), Jesus before the High Priests (Matthew 26: 57-75), Abraham and Lot (Genesis 13) and Ahab and Jezabel. We have been reading a lot straight from God's Word this week!
MEMORY-12/16- What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not entice or force away our neighbor’s wife, workers, or animals, or turn them against him, but urge them to stay and do their duty.
12/19- We will have a short matching test over the commandments.
LANGUAGE ARTS-We reviewed the story of Sacagawea, Charbonneau, their son Pomp, and Lewis and Clark. We worked with abbreviations, analogies, and finding syllables in words.
SPELLING WORDS for Friday, December 19th-
(from “The Best Little Christmas Pageant Ever”) manger, vain, barge, villain, hymn, hustle, cross, urn, retire, pageant, ancestor, congregation, interrupt, truant, imitation, *vengeance
MATH-We have learned how to do long division! I am SO proud of how hard these kiddos are working! They have the steps down and today worked with remainders and understanding what they mean and represent. We will continue this work next week and test over Chapter 7. Students are memorizing 10s and 11s in mad minutes.
SOCIAL STUDIES-This week, we have read and learned all about the Midwest states. (Yay, Missouri!) We learned how the Midwest is known for farming and manufacturing, as well as jobs in the service industry. We talked about the kinds of music that was made popular here and also the many attractions found in the Midwest. We continued watching and taking notes over the show "Aerial America: Missouri."
Special Classes:
MUSIC- We are practicing the songs for our upcoming Advent/Christmas service.
P.E.- We used our basketball skills of dribbling, passing, and shooting to do several drills with partners this week.
WRITERS’ WORKSHOP- We created Christmas letters and cards for you and for the people in the nursing homes next week.
COMPUTER LAB-Students used Google to create slideshows about themselves. We are getting quite used to using this format.
SPANISH-Students learned the words to "Feliz Navidad!"
ART-We have made Christmas cards and gifts for YOU!
Have a blessed weekend,
Kim
