Happy Valentine's Weekend! Jesus Loves You!

Hi, 4th grade parents!  It was wonderful visiting with each of you at conferences over the last two days.  I am so proud of your kiddos and how each one led him or self with such grace and dignity.  They took ownership with themselves, and that showed so much character!  It is so hard for me to believe that we are nearing the end of the school year...

*We had a lot of fun valentining it up this morning!  Happy day of spreading God's LOVE!

*If you had not heard, there is a bald eagle cam in Blue Springs!  The female just laid her eggs and is guarding them.  We have had her and her husband on in the classroom for the last couple of days.  :)  It has been peaceful and interesting to watching them.  If you are interested, here is the link:  Blue Springs Bald Eagle Cam

Upcoming Events:

*Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday!  Our pastors are going to be giving the imposition of ashes to any student or parent that wants to receive them.  They can be given on our foreheads or on our hands. We will be talking about it in class as well, but you may want to discuss it with your child for further understanding.  They may also opt out.  Please join us if you wish!  Chapel is at 8:45.
*If you have not already, please take a look at the drawing contest with the Rotary Club of Blue Springs.  Their topic was, "To me, kindness looks like..."

Here is what we have been up to in the classroom:
RELIGION- This week, we learned the lessons of "Jesus Healing the Boy Who Was Sick," "Jesus Healing the Paralyzed Man," and "The Pharisee and the Tax Collector."  We discussed the power of our Risen Lord and how He showed this power through miracles and lessons.  We learned how to solve our heart problems with the saying "SPR."  Say it.  Pray it. Replay it.  This helps us admit our sin, pray to God for help, and then to ask for forgiveness from whomever we hurt.  We did a lot of roleplays this week, where we practiced this skill.  We also witnessed to our homebound friends in the congregation by making valentines for them.
MEMORY-
2/17-Recite the entire Apostle’s Creed.
2/20-Be still, and know that I am God.  I will be exalted among the nations.  I will be exalted in the earth! ~Psalm 46: 10
LANGUAGE ARTS- We read the wonderful biography of Jose Limon, an immigrant dancer, who overcame and persevered, an eventually owned one of the greatest dance companies in the U.S.  In this selection, we learned some Spanish terms and learned about the Mexican civil war.  We reviewed skills such compare/contrast, cause and effect, and how to use context clues to figure our answers.  We worked on our personal report cards and our oral speaking skills in preparation for the student-led conferencing.
SPELLING WORDS for Friday, February 20th:
from The Screech Owl Who Loved Television:
somebody, fireplace, nearby, toothbrush, homesick, make-believe, anything, all right, goodbye, forehead, classmate, flashlight, haircut, twenty-two, driveway, alarm clock, baby-sit, airport, forever, mailbox, field trip, absent-minded

MATH- We worked on decomposing, adding, and subtracting fractions this week.  We will test over this unit next week and then begin multiplying and dividing fractions.
