Happy December! We have had such a fun-filled and busy week! Wow! Today we went and saw the play “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!” based on the book by Barbara Robinson. We read this aloud in class this week, and boy do the kids think those Herdman siblings are a riot! Today proved no different! We had a great time! A special thank you to those that were able to drive!
In Religion we finished up learning about the life of Moses. We tested over this unit yesterday and we all did well. We will watch the movie Prince of Egypt in the upcoming weeks to help us review and compare/contrast.
In Math this week we continued to have a combined 3rd/4th grade unit on money. We have reviewed how to count money, how to make change, and how to add and subtract money. We completed this unit this week and tested over our skills yesterday. The children say they are doing a great job at remembering to practice their math facts. Keep up the good work at home! Math Madness sheets are due on Mondays. This is part of their overall math grade.
In Language Arts this week we learned about different forms of plural nouns, and how to make them possessive. We also read two new stories. Third graders read the story Jump!, which is a biographical story about Michael Jordan. It was very interesting. The fourth graders read a story called The Screech Owl Who Liked Television. This was also a true story about a family who had a screech owl for a pet! Can you imagine?! Information for fourth grade book reports came home yesterday. These will be due at the end of January. Both grades will be reading historical fiction novels. Fourth graders shared their fantasy book reports and comics they created! They are so wonderful! Check them out in the hallway!
In Music this week we again concentrated on the songs that we will be sharing at the Advent service in December! We sound so beautiful! Our class will be singing and reenacting the Christmas story from the Bible, so please mark your calendars. The services are December 14th at 5:00 and 7:15.
In P.E. this week we continued with basketball skills! We continued to work on skills and played a few games of scrimmage! We are getting quite good and learning great sportsmanship skills.
In Art this week, we made Christmas snow scenes that will hang in the South 7 Highway Mid-Continent Public Library this month. If you have time, swing by and check them out. Art work from all grades of Timothy Lutheran will be on display there. We also finished up our Special Moments pictures and these are in display in the hallway. We had fun decorating our classroom with Christmas decorations and paper chains as well!
For Social Studies during the next few weeks, we will be learning about economics. As your child has probably told you, we (grades 3rd-6th) will be visiting the School of Economics on December 14th, and are preparing by having job interviews (today), and meeting with our shops, deciding on what items to buy, how much we should price our items, discussing supply and demand, how to advertise, and how to count money and make change! This is such a great learning opportunity for the students and we are all very excited! I will keep you posted on the new things we learn each day. Permission slips are coming home today, so please look for this in Friday Folders.
Please Remember: Our Mission Project this year is to raise money to help Martin Luther School in Joplin, MO. Our goal this month is to raise $500.00 as a whole school, and we will be able to participate in a fun Candyland adventure. Thank you for your help!
Blessings,
Mrs. Myers
