Newsletter From March 23rd...

Dear Parents,

We have had such a fun and busy week! Again this week, we really focused on our literature study of Charlotte’s Web and on our Earthworks Science unit! We finished our book, tested over it today, and began to watch the movie! It is fun to find the similarities and differences…
In Religion this week, we talked about how Jesus walked on the water, and how the Peter and the other disciples were afraid of Him at that time. They did not understand His power…This led to a neat discussion of our own fears, and how we need to remember that God is always with us, and we need to turn to Him with those fears. We read several Bible verses that helped us understand God’s undying love and power in these situations. We focused on… Philippians 4:13, Isaiah 40: 29-31, and Psalm 23:4. We also learned some new words: omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient.

In Cursive we learned the letters “s”, “t,” “x,” “y,” and “z.” This is all the lower case! Next week, we will begin on the upper case and soon be writing names! Next week in Spelling, our words will be Science words. We will continue our focus on our Earthworks unit, incorporating science literature into our learning.

As noted above, In Science this week, we have been working on our unit for Earthworks! This week we learned about energy, life cycles, water, and the amazing water. In Art, we reviewed the parts of the water cycle: condensation, precipitation, transpiration, and evaporation, and the many things in between! We then used our imaginations and materials in our Art room to recreate them in a circle. They are pretty cool! Please urge your child to study his or her vocabulary card throughout this unit to get ready for our visit to Earthworks on April 19th!

In Math this week, the third graders learned and tested over simple division and what it means, and how it relates to multiplication. Next week, they will dive further into it, and learn many new facts! Fourth graders are learning how to compute longer multiplication problems, including those with zeroes, and will test over these concepts on Monday. Please make sure your child is practicing his or her facts! It is SO important to have these memorized!

MUSIC: We are always looking for new and exciting ways to celebrate through worship and we have found yet another one! Grades 3-8 have been working on a “flash mob” for April 15 (the Sunday after Easter) in the Service of Joy (south campus, 9:30am). They will be joined by several other church groups as we present “Rise Up”, a wonderful celebration of the Risen Lord who lives inside us! While the kids are learning this during the music time at school, we have also provided 2 more Sunday afternoon opportunities for everyone to come and practice. These are not required, but optional for kids who would like some extra practice. These are March 4th and April 1st from 1:00-2:30 in the gym. Parents and family members are invited to join as well! If kids are interested in the hip hop section in the middle, the Sunday rehearsals will be required. That is their choice. Thank you!

Report cards and Achievement tests scores went home this week. All of the students are really doing so very well! When averaged as a school overall, it has been noted that our students tested two grade levels above their current grade level! It is a pleasure and honor to teach in such an outstanding school. Please see the attached letter from Mr. Kuerschner. Thank you!

Please Remember: Our Mission Project this year is to raise money to help Martin Luther School in Joplin, MO. March’s challenge is to raise $300 as a school, so we can purchase basketball hoops for the families that lost theirs in the tornado. We will have a special all-school surprise if this goal is met.

If you are new to Timothy, you may be wondering exactly what Trivia Night is. Teams made up of 8 people work together to answer trivia questions from different categories, much like Trivial Pursuit. You can create your own team made up of family and friends, or join with other families from our school. You are welcome to bring your own food, snacks, and drinks. Childcare is available. Tickets are $15.00 each or $110.00 for a table of 8. Trivia Night will take place April, 13th, here in our gym. The evening also includes door prizes and a silent auction. Each class will have a special project in it! This is such a fun evening! I really hope you will join us in supporting our school!

Have a great wekeend!
God's Blessings!
Kim
