Dear Parents,
We have had such a fun and busy week! We really focused on our literature study of Charlotte’s Web and on our Earthworks Science unit!
In Religion this week, we discussed Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount and what the Beatitudes are. We also learned about the Lord’s Prayer and Jesus feeding the 5,000. We were reminded about the love and the power of our God!
As noted before, in Language Arts this week, we continued our book study of “Charlotte’s Web.” We read chapters 12-16 and completed a lot of work with the vocabulary in these chapters. We are learning all sorts of new words and enjoying the antics of Wilbur and Charlotte!
In Cursive we learned the letters “f,” “g,” “”q,” and “r.” Pretty soon we will know all of the lower case and will move onto the upper case… The students are excited to write their names.
We continued on our expository writing or our research papers this week. Many students are working on forming good paragraphs and putting them into paper form.
Third graders shared their fantasy book reports this week and they were fabulous! Their projects and reports are fabulous! Please make sure you stop by and see them in our Idea Lab!
In Science this week, we have been working on our unit for Earthworks! We have learned about habitats, and what is needed to survive and them. We studied our school mascot, the ram, and found out where it gets its food, water, shelter, and space. We have talked about energy, and that our main source of energy comes from the sun! Yesterday we made food chains after studying various plants, insects, and animals! Next week we will build food webs! We are learning so very much!
In P.E. this week, we played outside and began to learn the rules of four square. We also spend some time practicing the flash mob dance with the older classes. See below for more details about that! What a fun dance (and workout!)
MUSIC: We are always looking for new and exciting ways to celebrate through worship and we have found yet another one! Grades 3-8 have been working on a “flash mob” for April 15 (the Sunday after Easter) in the Service of Joy (south campus, 9:30am). They will be joined by several other church groups as we present “Rise Up”, a wonderful celebration of the Risen Lord who lives inside us! While the kids are learning this during the music time at school, we have also provided 2 more Sunday afternoon opportunities for everyone to come and practice. These are not required, but optional for kids who would like some extra practice. These are March 4th and April 1st from 1:00-2:30 in the gym. Parents and family members are invited to join as well! If kids are interested in the hip hop section in the middle, the Sunday rehearsals will be required. That is their choice. Thank you!
Please Remember: Our Mission Project this year is to raise money to help Martin Luther School in Joplin, MO. Fifth through eighth graders won February’s challenge. As a school, we raised over $800I I am SO proud of all of our efforts! March’s challenge is to raise $300 as a school, so we can purchase basketball hoops for the families that lost their s in the tornado. We will have a special all-school surprise if this goal is met.
Have a fabulous weekend and Happy St. Patty's Day!
(Go Mizzou!!!)
Blessings to you,
Kim
