Newsletter From March 2, 2012

Hello, Parents! We have had a busy, yet fun week here in third and fourth grades! This week we completed achievement tests every day, and the students worked so very hard! I am proud of their efforts, and today we had a little “I Finished My Achievement Test!” party! We will send these off to be scored and will provide you with the results when we they are returned to us. Thank you so much bringing in snacks! They kept our brains focused and tummies full!

In Religion this week, we talked about Jesus healing the paralyzed man and Jesus raising Jairus’s daughter. These were amazing miracles that showed God’s power and promise.
In Language Arts this week, we continued our book study of “Charlotte’s Web.” We read chapters 5, 6, and 7, completed a lot of work with the vocabulary in these chapters. We are learning all sorts of new words!

In Cursive we learned the letters “u,” “v,” and “w.” Pretty soon we will know all of the lower case and will move onto the upper case…

We continued on our expository writing or our research papers this week. Many students are working on forming good paragraphs and putting them into paper form.

Fourth grade shared their mystery book reports this week and they were fabulous! They had to create a movie poster advertising their book or story! They are in the hallway outside of our classroom. Come and check them out!

All of the children have expressed some interest in purchasing the devotion book that I use every day for our classroom devotions! They love it! It is a 365 Day Devotion book, and Miss Lydia can get them to you for $5.00 if you would like to purchase one! Please just send the money to school in a labeled envelope, and I will take care of that for you! Thanks!

In P.E. this week, we played a game called Super Pin Guard. We used 3 different types of balls, 10 pins, and got points for baskets made, pins knocked down, and people thrown out. It was fun! We were sweaty messes by the time P.E. was over, though! Fun times!

MUSIC: We are always looking for new and exciting ways to celebrate through worship and we have found yet another one! Grades 3-8 have been working on a “flash mob” for April 15 (the Sunday after Easter) in the Service of Joy (south campus, 9:30am). They will be joined by several other church groups as we present “Rise Up”, a wonderful celebration of the Risen Lord who lives inside us! While the kids are learning this during the music time at school, we have also provided 2 more Sunday afternoon opportunities for everyone to come and practice. These are not required, but optional for kids who would like some extra practice. These are March 4th and April 1st from 1:00-2:30 in the gym. Parents and family members are invited to join as well! If kids are interested in the hip hop section in the middle, the Sunday rehearsals will be required. That is their choice. Thank you!

Please Remember: Our Mission Project this year is to raise money to help Martin Luther School in Joplin, MO. Fifth through eighth graders won February’s challenge. As a school, we raised over $800I I am SO proud of all of our efforts! March’s challenge is to raise $300 as a school, so we can purchase basketball hoops for the families that lost their s in the tornado. We will have a special all-school surprise if this goal is met.

Be sure to check out our upcoming events!
Have a beautiful, fun-filled weekend!
God's Blessings,
Kim
