Dear Parents,
This week has been a great one! Mid-terms went home this week, and they are evidence at how hard your child is working! I am so proud of them!
Next week, I will have a special visitor, a former student, Nathan Eaton, visiting our classroom. He is a student at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, and is studying to become a DCE, with a major in education. He needs to shadow a teacher, and has chosen to come here! It will be a neat experience for him and for the kiddos, and we are excited!
Please pray for the family of Kent and Christy Burns, as Kent’s father went home to be with Jesus on Thursday. We pray for God’s peace for them, as they mourn the loss of their father and grandfather, but are joyful in the fact that he is in heaven with his Savior!
Thank you so much for your prayers this week as I went to the hospital with my oldest daughter, Emma. She will be having heart surgery on October 10th, and we went to the hospital on Thursday for tests and to get everything set up for the surgery date. Everything went well and we are thankful!
I feel so blessed to be here every day with your children! Daily, they give me laughter and little reminders of how great our God is, and how awesome it is to see life through the eyes of a child!
Here are my favorite quotes from the week:
If I were giving an Emmy for the best TV show, I’d award it to “Cake Boss.” ~Jenna
“If I were planning my favorite meal, it would include PIZZA!!! ~Emma
“I can’t do swim, but I’m really good at drawing.” ~Jaden
“If I could be like another person, it would Toby Mack.” ~Morgan
“My most prized possessions are my video games, Legos, and some papers.” ~Ian
Here is what we did this week:
In Religion , we learned about the Holy Spirit and went over the Third Article. We discussed ways the Spirit blesses us, and gives us the tools we need to make good choices and to share the Good News with others.
Memory work for next week is:
October 2- And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
October 5- For Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen.In Language Arts this week, we talked about the predicate of a sentence and learned that the verb is always present there
Third graders read a story entitled, Robert Clemente, about the famous baseball player that died so tragically. Fourth graders read a tall tale about Stormalong, a brave seafaring giant of a man. It was a fun story!
Fourth grade book reports were shared today and they were so very cool! Check out the new book covers hanging in our reading classroom! Third graders need to read a mystery book and have their reports completed by October 19th.
In Math, third graders moved past rounding and onto estimating numbers before adding and subtracting. They are using skills they learned last year when borrowing and regrouping. They are enjoying this! Fourth graders tested over place value and estimating and began working with algebraic expressions today! Yeah!
In Science this week, each child was given a baby animal to research. The students had to find out how to take care of this young. The kids are working independently on this small project and will begin reviewing their chapter next week. We are moving a bit slower on this unit than I had anticipated, but they are enjoying it and retaining quite a bit! We will hopefully test over it next week!
During Art , we created beautiful crayon resist fall landscapes. These will be on display soon!
In P.E. this week, we learned bow to play Pin Dodge ball, and had quite a fun time! We showed great teamwork and sportsmanship.
For Writers’ Workshop, we began writing Personal Narratives! It was so fun to see the children getting excited about their writing, and wanting so badly to share, share, share their personal experiences. I am excited to read the final projects!
For Computer Lab this week, we remained in the classroom to work on our narratives. We will begin typing these when they get to the Publishing step of the writing process
In Music this week, the choir sang Open the Eyes of My Heart, Honor You God, Celebrate the King, Big House, and If I Ever. During music theory, the Students became familiar with their recorders and the expectations for practice and performance. We learned to play three notes: B, A, G. Students should practice Exercises 1, 2 and 3 at least four times each. Please remind students to bring their recorder to school every Thursday.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Yours in Christ,
Kim Myers
