Dear Parents,
We have had another great week here in 3rd/4th grade! We had a lot of fun things going on this week and during this weekend!
The Harvest Party is tonight from 5:30-7:30pm. There will be concessions (including pizza and hot dogs). There will also be lots of fun games and activities. Please invite your friends and neighbors. We hope to see you there!
Our October Mission Project Challenge, “Fighting the 45”, has come to an end. Almost every Chapel Family reached their $45 goal! They will be rewarded next week with a “Dessert Day” after lunch. The Mission Project Challenge for November and December will be introduced during Chapel on Wednesday.
Enjoy your extra hour of sleep this weekend as we “fall back”. Don’t forget to change your clocks! Everyone is invited to Timothy Lutheran Ministries’ 50th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday at Blue Springs South High School. The students will need to be there at 8:45 to warm-up. They will sit with you during the service and then come up to sing, when Mr. Burns calls them forward. Thank you!
Here is what we did this week:
In Religion, we learned about the Creation story and we made Creation flip books. These are hanging next door and are so beautiful! What an awesome God we serve!
In Language Arts this week, both classes read biographies. The third graders read Young Thomas Edision and fourth graders read Jose! Born to Dance, which is about Joes Limon, famous choreographer. They really enjoyed these and had some fun with vocabulary! Fourth graders shared their Brown Bag-It Book Reports and did so well! These are also on display in our spare room.
In Math this week, we worked so hard on counting money! We especially practiced counting back change. This is a tough skill to learn, and this took some practice and we actually worked on it several days. Most of us, now, are pros! We also worked this week on adding and subtracting money amounts. The kids are working hard, but some are still struggling. Please continue to work with them at home. Thanks!
In Science this week, we dissected flowers and learned about the stamen, the pistil, and the pollen. Next week, we will work with cones and test over our chapter. Please have your child make sure they know their vocabulary words! Please look online our web page if your child misplaced this sheet!
During Art, we learned how to tear paper to make contour shapes. We looked at an autumn still life and created what we saw! These are so pretty and hanging in the hallway!
In P.E. this week, we began learning basketball skills. We learned the three types of passes, and we learned how to dribble. We will continue to learn new skills next week! We are having such fun!
For Writers’ Workshop, we each wrote a letter to Memaw and Pa Ron to thank them for our trip last week! We practiced our friendly letter skills…
In Music/Choir, we are preparing for the Advent Service we are leading (December 5), and we have been practicing songs with the word “mighty” in them. So far, we have sung “My God is So Great”, “What A Mighty God We Serve”, “Mighty is Our God”, and “Agnus Dai”. We had fun singing “Gotta Get God’s Love”, “The Gospel Light Boogie” and “Deep Deep”. In Music, we reviewed the recorder notes we have learned this far: B, A, G, C, D. Students played “Sweet Tooth”, “Juba” and “Go Tell Aunt Rhodie”. We learned about 3/4 time. Students were given several new songs to practice. Many students have begun playing Recorder Karate test pieces. They do this at their own pace, with the goal of mastering all nine pieces to receive their black belt. They are doing well!
You May Have Hears Some of These Rumblings This Week:
I shared some really great news with your child this week, and I would like to share it with you too! First of all, I want you to know how thankful I am that we are like a family in this classroom and in this school and church, and I always appreciate you and all of your prayers and words of affirmation. Thank you! Many of them already knew, but I am quite a private person, so I knew I needed to explain things the best I could to the children, because things are about to change, and because we are so involved in each other’s lives here at Timothy. We are one big family, and it makes serving here so wonderful! In Religion, we often discuss how God turns heartaches, sadness, and despair into positive things and His power is amazing, beautiful, and so life-changing! He always knows what is best. I have been living this all firsthand lately. I have been divorced for about two years. I did not go into detail with the children of course, but those of you that know me well, know that this was something that was not easy for me and was very hard on our family. Anyway, God has provided me with so much. He has provided me with amazing friends and family, with healing, with time, and now with new love. Over last weekend, I got engaged to Jeff Brunkhorst. We will get married soon! Our God is good and gracious! Goodness!
Mrs. Barber, my dear friend and 5th/6th grade teacher, also shared some wonderful news this week! She and her husband Dan are expecting their first baby in June! We have been full of good news here at Timothy this week! Our God is an awesome God!
Have a fantastic weekend!
Yours in Christ,
Kim Myers
