Newsletter from 3-1-13

Dear Parents,

I missed your children so much! I hope you were able to enjoy the extra time you were able to spend with them…I was anxious to see them on Thursday! I loved all of the stories I heard about paling in the beautiful snow! :)

Our annual Trivia Night fund raiser is Friday, April 19. It is a fun night, including a team trivia competition and silent auction. We encourage you to gather your team of 8 friends and join us for the fun. Don’t have a team? Don’t worry! Teams of individuals can be formed that evening. The theme is “Dancing Through the Decades”. Each class is creating a one-of-a-kind item for the live auction. Ticket sales begin April 2. We are accepting new items for the silent auction. We welcome individual and/or business donations of goods or services. If you would like to help, contact Amanda Pascoe.
Our students have been invited to participate in Timothy’s spring pageant, “The Story”, on April 13 & 14. We are learning three new songs for this special event.

Fourth graders’ movie poster book reports are due on Monday. This will give them a little extra time!

Today, we had a special message from Mr. Saving, the missionary from Children’s Christian Concern Society. He talked to us about how our monetary gifts will be able to help this organization, and showed us a special video featuring some of the children we will be sponsoring. He gave each child a coin purse to collect change for the next month. Be on the lookout for this coming home today! Your child can bring his or her coins to school on Wednesdays and we will collect money and send it to him at the end of the month. Each $25.00 we raise will sponsor a student for a month. This money shares the message of Jesus and educates this child. You can go to www.cccskids.org to find out more. There is also a business card in each coin purse for your family with more information. Thank you for helping us to support this organization. The kids are excited!

Below, I have highlighted some of what we have done this week:

Testing: We resumed achievement testing this week, and we have one test left to finish on Monday. This took up so very much of our time this week! The children did so well, and worked so hard! I am very proud of their efforts and patience (it is LONG testing week, despite days off!), and I will be excited to get the results back. They will be back sometime in May, and be sent to you.

Art: We created snow scenes, using crayon resist and white paint. These are beautiful and were inspired by our scenery here at school ! Be on the lookout for them in the hallway!

Music: Thursday we reviewed whole notes, half notes and quarter notes. Students identified each note. Students labeled notes on a staff as either line or space notes.

Memory: With all of the snow days, it has really messed up our memory schedule! Please look below, as I have updated where we stand on our memory verses. I will change theses on the website as well.

Next week, we will resume back to “normal” classroom studies! We will have spelling words, reading stories, memory work, math lessons, mad minutes, science/social studies lessons, and Religion lessons. :)

MEMORY for March:

March 5- THE EIGHTH COMMANDMENT

You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not tell lies about our neighbor,

March 8- betray him, slander him, or hurt his reputation, but defend him, speak well of him, and explain everything in the kindest way.

March 12- THE NINTH COMMANDMENT

You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not scheme to get our neighbor’s inheritance or house,

March 15- or get it in a way which only appears right, but help and be of service to him in keeping it.

March 19- THE TENTH COMMANDMENT

You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

March 22- What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not entice or force away our neighbor’s wife,
