From the Week of February 2, 2013
Dear Parents,
Happy National Lutheran Schools Week! I have to say, that it is such an honor to work in a Lutheran School, and even more of an honor to work in this Lutheran school with these amazing children, awesome staff of friends, and supportive parents like you. I am feeling a bit emotional right now…after a wonderful Grandparents/Special Person day, and feeling the family-type atmosphere here in this building and amongst all of these wonderful people. Thank you for allowing me to teach your child every day. I spend my days in the best way ever!
We had a fun and interesting week! Despite what Pastor Rich eluded to on Sunday (Ha!), some learning did take place! Here is a rundown of our fun week:
On Monday, we celebrated Spirit Day! There were so many kiddos running around in red, white, and blue (and crazy hair!)! I took some neat pictures and will post them soon! We learned the next few letters in the cursive alphabet, took our Chapter 9 math tests, and did well. We also really studied our Author of the Month, Patricia Polacco and dissected two of my favorite stories of hers, “Pink and Say,” about the Civil War and “The Butterfly,” about WWII.
On Tuesday, we all wore our favorite sports team wear, and went bowling! Fun times were had by all! In the afternoon, we had special classes. For Writing, we watched a video about Patricia Polacco, where she talked to us about writing, dreaming, drawing, and her passions. She was such an inspiration to the students and to me! She is an amazing person and really inspired the kids to write, write, write! We loved it! During PE, we began jumping rope and working on those skills!
Wednesday was “Dress Like Your Chapel Family” day! In here, we had some crazy hair, some Toy Story characters, some pirates, and much more… We began the morning with math games and muffins with mom. Thanks for all of you that came! We had a great time! Chapel was led by Lutheran high, and they did a great job sharing God’s message of having patience. It is a lesson that all of us need from time to time. We worked on leading the church services on Sunday and also made “thank-you’s” for the church bulletins.
Thursday was the 100th Day of School AND Pajama Day! We had crazy 100-Day Centers, including 100 words we can read, 100 dice math, 100 money flips, 100 word story, being 100 years old, and 100 favorite things. We ended the day with all school movies. Today, as mentioned above, was Grandparents Day and Talent Show. We all dressed our best, and had some wonderful people in the building!
Please remember our school will be leading the worship services at Timothy (north campus) on Sunday at 8:00 and 9:15. Meet at 7:40 am in the Sanctuary. Wear Timothy gear. Students will be finished around 10:15am.
All students in 3rd/4th have been given a speaking or acting part in the service. Our choirs will be singing as well. It is such an honor for us to lead and such a great culmination to an extraordinary week! Thank you so much!
Timothy is hosting the 7th/8th grade basketball tournament on February 7th-10th. A sign-up was sent home today. This would be an awesome opportunity to see some of the older children play, as well as get to know some of their parents and see how our sports program works. If you have time, please come out and help! We will need everyone that can to help make it a success! Thank you so much for considering!
Timothy Church is collecting Styrofoam egg cartons and plastic Easter eggs for a special Lenten activity. If you are willing to donate either of these items, please bring them to the church or school office. Thank you!
Thank you for responding so promptly to the Parent-Teacher Conference sign-up (emailed through Sign-Up Genius). I look forward to meeting with you February 14 & 15. Your child will lead the conference.
Achievement tests are coming up! These will be February 25th-March 1st. The testing will be in the mornings from 8:30-12:00 every day. The home school students are invited to do this as well. If you are interested, please let me know and Mr. K will order your supplies. Thank you!
Home School Families: Because of Parent-Teacher Conferences, there will be a 1:00pm dismissal on Thursday, February 14. We will have special classes in the morning that week. Please join us from 8:30-11:30am.
Our class will have a Valentine's Day Party on Thursday, February 14, from 10:30-11:30am. Each child should bring a Valentine for each member of the class. Thank you! Also, if you have an empty tissue box at home, please send one to school. I have been collecting them at school too, so we should be okay, even if you do not have one!
Have a weekend!
Yours in Christ,
Kim Brunkhorst :)
