Dear Parents,
It has been another fun and work-filled week here at school! … We are blessed. Here is what we have been up to:
Religion: We took our Religion test over the sacraments and their meanings. We began Unit 8, where we are looking in-depth at the commandments. We have focused on who our neighbor is and learned the story of the Good Samaritan. We each then took a role of someone in the Bible story, and really analyzed their actions and why they may have felt the way they did. Why did the priest and the Levite pass by the injured man? What were they feeling? Why did the Samaritan stop? What do you think the injured man thought of this? Our portraits and our thoughts are hanging the hallway outside of our room. Pleases stop by to look! Today, we discussed the 4th commandment and what honor and obey actually mean. We had special scenarios that we shared in class and how to handle each one. Hopefully, the children will bring these lessons home and show you that they understand exactly what they mean! Let me know! ;)
Memory for April: The children will need to recite the books of the New Testament to me on Tuesday (4/30). They have done a great job so far!
Math: Third graders began learning about lines, segments, rays, and angles this week! I love hearing, “This is easy! This is fun!” Yeah! Math is fun! Fourth graders are working on longer division and how to check their work. They are doing well! Please, please urge your child to keep working with your child on their multiplication facts at home! As I stated earlier in the year, our class always takes a trip to Winstead’s for those who learn their multiplication tables 0-10. I will let you know more details about this as the date approaches. It is always sometime after school in mid-May. They can do this!!!
Language Arts: This week, we worked with analogies. These were hard, but a great skill. Both groups read very fun stories! Third graders learned about a boy’s hike up Mt. Everest and all of the perils along the way. So cool! Fourth graders read a science-fiction story that was written in 1954, about our generation… and it was neat to see the imagination of the author, as he predicted that we would have electronic books, and teachers would be replaced with computers. So much of that is true! It was a fun read!
Writing: This week, we wrote Fairytale Poems! They are so very creative and imaginative, and took us back to being little and reminiscing about our favorite stories and rhymes! They will be coming home soon in the published version. We are putting them together in a classroom book.
Art: This week, we finished our rainy day pictures and worked on our book reports.
Music: We learned a new echo song, “Give Me J-E-S-U-S”. It was a lot of fun! We also practiced “When I Think of You” and “The Word”. We danced to a song about gummy bears. We enjoyed some favorite songs chosen by students, including “Me Without You”.
P.E. We played practiced bowling on Tuesday and learned how to the “train run.” We played outside on Thursday and enjoyed the beautiful weather! Spring is here! …please!
Other News:
Book Reports: The children are working hard o their biography book reports. The rugs will be coming home to finish now. Third grade reports are due on May 15th, and fourth grade reports are due on April 30th.
Cross-Country Meets: First, second, and third graders have been invited to join our track team during their two cross-country meets on April 30th (Tuesday!) and May 7th. Please let me know if your third grader is interested! Thank you!
Mission Project: Our spring mission project, “Help for the Homeless”, continues. We will assemble kits for area homeless people. This week, we are collecting disposable razors and shaving cream. Please keep in mind, smaller containers work best. All kit items must fit into one gallon size zip lock bag.
During Week #1, we collected washcloths and soap/body wash
Week #2 (April 10-17) – shampoo, deodorant, and lotion
Week #3 (April 17-24) – toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss
Week #4 (April 24-May 1) – disposable razors and shaving cream
Week #5 (May 1-8) – gallon ziplocks and granola bars
Week #6 (May 8-15) – catch up week – we’ll send out an email as this week comes closer, telling you what to bring to keep our overall donation numbers even
Trivia Night was so much fun! Mr. and Mrs. Mundt had the winning bid on our class project. Yeah! (Jenna says that it is hanging right over their piano, and that it looks fabulous!) We raised over $6,000 for our school!
Cinco de Mayo Performance coming soon: On Friday, May 3rd, students will be performing various activities for your enjoyment. Girls need to arrive at school at 6:15 (putting on skirts takes awhile) and boys need to arrive at 6:30. Boys are instructed to wear blue/black jeans, a white shirt (short- or long-sleeved), and dress shoes (if they have cowboy boots, they can wear these). Girls need to wear their hair in a bun (if possible), a white short-sleeved blouse (no decals or prints on it, please), and shorts to wear under their dancing skirt. They will also need to wear dress shoes. If you have any questions or concerns, direct them to Mrs. Carrasco: trianac@timothylutheran.com
Have a wonderful weekend!
Love,
Kim Brunkhorst
