3rd/4th Grade News 5-10-13
Dear Parents,
THANK YOU for all of the amazing gifts and cards that you have showered me with this week! You have spoiled me…and I appreciate you all so much! We have had a great week in 3rd/4th grade! Goodness, it is pretty outside…and praying for good weather tomorrow too! Our track team really needs to have a meet!
Here are the things we have been up to here in the classroom:
Religion: This week, we reviewed commandments 7-10, by discussing the life of Joseph. We worked through stealing, bearing false witness, and coveting things our neighbor has. What a good reminder of how much God loves us and forgives us daily! The power of forgiveness is so important! Today, we exchanged examples of this in our lives. What a genuine discussion…
Math: Third graders learned all about symmetry, congruent and similar shapes, and sliding and flipping shapes today. Fourth graders are working on finding mean, finding prime and composite numbers, and finding factors and multiples! Fun! and Please, please urge your child to keep working with your child on their multiplication facts at home! As I stated earlier in the year, our class always takes a trip to Winstead’s for those who learn their multiplication tables 0-10. We will begin our 3-miute mad minutes on Monday to start testing for this.
Language Arts: This week, we worked with commas in a series. Both groups read very fun stories! Third graders learned about magnets (which tied in SO well with our science unit this week!) and fourth graders read about amphibians. For our writing and creating activities, third graders made up their own inventions, and fourth graders designed their own amphibian game boards. We will share these next week!
Science: We have a science test on Monday over the Sun and Moon. Students brought home their science folders today so they could study. There is a vocabulary sheet and a study guide in there that they can become familiar with. We played Science Jeopardy today to get them ready! They all know their “stuff!”
Writing: This week, we had Reader’s Theatre, where we share some of our Biography Rugs! These are fabulous! Be on the lookout for them in the hallway…
Art: This week, we finished our Mother’s Day gifts…for YOU! Thank you for being such amazing moms! You have blessed me with your babies!
Music: 3rd/4th graders will give their last recorder solos next week. If your child has borrowed a recorder from Mrs. Mundt, please be sure to return it next week. We sang a lot of fun Kid’s pick songs this week during choir! Fun times!
P.E. We played outside this week, and practiced track and field events! We competed in some training runs, the train run, and did an obstacle course on the playground! We laughed quite a bit and enjoyed the nice weather!
Other News:
Book Reports: The children are working hard on their biography book reports. Fourth graders shared theirs this week, and third graders are due May 15th. I will discuss 4th grade’s (easy and fun) May book report with them on Monday.
Mission Project: Our students have done an amazing job colleting items to make Homeless Kits. We hope to complete 100 kits. These are the items still needed: deodorant, dental floss, toothpaste, toothbrushes and shaving cream.
Play Day: is next week (May 17)! We will need parents to help with the day’s events. Go to our link on Sign-Up Genius to volunteer.

All TLS Sports Participants: Timothy Lutheran School’s Athletic Banquet is next Friday! Awards will be given to all athletes and eighth graders will be recognized. Come join us for some fun and fellowship on Friday, May 17th, at 7:00 p.m. The banquet will be held in the gym, and all athletes, parents, and loved ones of Timothy Lutheran School are welcome to come! Dessert will be served before the awards.
Library News: Today was your child’s last opportunity to check out a library book. Please return all library books by next Thursday, May 16. Thank you to our superstar volunteer librarian, Mrs. Pascoe!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Love,
Kim Brunkhorst
