From the Week of October 4, 2013
Hello! First, I have to thank you for your amazing birthday prayers, wishes, gifts,
and snacks! You and your kiddos made me feel like a million bucks today! Thank
you so much...I am so thankful for each of you! :)
Parent
teacher conferences are coming up at the end of October! Yesterday, I
sent out the link for the SignUpGenius page. If you missed that email,

We have had a busy and successful week here in 3rd/4th grades. Here is what we have been up to:
Religion- This week, we focused on the stories of Jacob, Joseph, and Lot,
and how their faith was tested, but they never turned their backs on God.. What
great examples to follow! Also, in chapel this week, we received a new flier
about Operation Christmas Child. It had information on how to pack a
shoebox, it listed gift suggestions, and it had a money envelope in case you
would rather donate money instead of items to ship. National Collection
Week is approaching soon – November 18-25! Thank you SO MUCH for showing
kids around the world a little extra love.
Language Arts- We talked about run-on sentences, and learned how to separate
them using punctuation. We corrected these in DOL sentences. Fourth
graders shared their book reports. They were fabulous! Thanks for
your hard work at home too! Please check out the hallway where they are
hanging. Beautiful book covers! We are reading Roald Dahl’s “The
BFG,” as our read-aloud! It is so funny and leads to great conversation!
We will finish this next week and begin reading L. Frank Baum’s “Wizard
of Oz.” :) We also read the following fun stories as classes:
3rd-”Max’s Word”--We made up our stories using magazine words!
4th-”Once Upon a Motorcycle Dude”--We created partner stories too!
Math-
3rd-We will test over rounding numbers, estimating sums, choosing
the best method to solve, and longer addition on Monday. We will focus on
subtraction next week.
4th- We will test over expressions, equations, and patterns, and
balancing equations next week, and will begin our review chapter about telling
time and counting money. Soon, we will begin working on our field trip to
School of Economics, so this will come in handy!
Social Studies- We will have our Chapter 2 test on Monday! Please remind
your student about their study guide that has come home. Please look
below, as I have added it here. After
this test, we will take a break from our Missouri books to concentrate on the
habitats of Missouri, and begin our Science study of Earthworks. You will
hear a lot about this next week!
Computer
Time- We
began setting up our Google Docs accounts, and/or began the publishing steps to
our personal narratives. They are doing
great!
P.E.- This week in P.E. we played a “Hook-On” tag! What a fun
game...and what great exercise!
Art- We drew and painted a Fall Still-Life. We will finish thee
up next Thursday.
Music- With Mrs. Krekel, the
children reviewed quarter notes and beats, and learned a new version of “A
Tooty Ta!” They also have fun in choir with Mrs. Mundt, , singing
their favorite songs, as well as new songs. They practiced for when the
students sing in church on October 20th.
Writers’ Workshop- This week,
we continued work on our personal narratives. Many of the children have
begun their “publishing” step! They sound great!
