Newsletter 12-13-13

Third and Fourth Grade News
December 13, 2013
Hello, Parents! This week has been a fun one!  We had a blast today at the School of Economics.  Thank you for all the parental help we received.  I will post pictures next week! The kiddos have learned SO much!
Basketball games for tonight are canceled because of inclement weather.
The students have Christmas musical practice this Saturday from 9-11 a.m.  The performance will be this Sunday, December 15 at 6 p.m.  Students are asked to meet in their homerooms at 5:30.
Next Thursday is our FUN day!  All students in grades K-8 (home-school included) will head to Lunar Bowl for a Christmas Party!  If your child is interested in attending, they will need to wear tennis shoes (in lieu of getting bowling shoes) and bring in $4.  You’re welcome to come and bowl, too!  Each bowler just pays $4.  Students may bring money to purchase snacks, but we’ll leave that up to your discretion.
Thursday afternoon, students in grades 1-6 will head out to area nursing homes and sing Christmas carols to their residents.  Grades 3 and 4 are headed to Waterford Nursing Home by Railroad Park.  We need drivers for both events, so if you are able to help out, please email me.  Thank you!
On Friday, please have your child wear PJs to school (and tennis shoes).  Your child may also bring a pillow and/or blanket, and we will be having our Polar Express party.  There will be snacks and hot chocolate…and the movie Polar Express.
Christmas break begins at 1:00 next Friday!  Don’t forget to pick up your child early!
Here is what we have been up to this week:
Religion-This week, we found out who Gideon was and talked about how God sent many prophecies that foretold Jesus birth.

Language Arts-Third graders read a story about a science fair and fourth graders read a true story about the 1906 San Francisco earthquakes called, “The Earth Dragon Awakes.”  In English, we talked more about adjectives.  We began cursive too:  “e” and “l”.

Math-This week, the third graders continued to work with money and time.  Fourth graders finished up their unit about graphs and will test on Tuesday.  Next week, we will get caught up on math.  We spend several of our math periods this week getting ready for School of Economics, which is quite a bit of math too!

P.E.-We are continuing to learn basketball skills.  We scrimmaged this week and had some fun putting our skills to work!

Music- We are working on songs for the Christmas Pageant and they sound great!!!

Art-using our writing prompts from last week, we are now taking those words we wrote down about ourselves and using them to decorate a silhouette of ourselves.  These are beautiful!  These will be coming home soon for you to enjoy!
