Third and Fourth Grade News
April 11, 2014
Hello! Tonight is
Trivia Night! The excitement is in the
air! J Even if you don’t have a
table, please come, and hang out and participate in the silent and live
auctions. It is so much fun! Bidding begins at 6:00 and trivia play begins
at 7:00.
Track has begun
too! We had a great first practice…and
have quite a few 4th graders on the team! Spring is in the air and things are looking
bright! I will keep us all informed about
upcoming track meets, in case anyone wants to come and cheer on the Rams…
We had our Star Party on
Wednesday, and the children had a lot of fun playing games! Most of them were silent or giggling a bit
while they played their hand held games… It was neat for me, though, to hear
and watch the kids while some of them played “Clue.” I loved that game as a kiddo, and it was just
inspiring for me to watch them play, strategize, learn, and teach others while
playing it too! There are some things to
be said for all those old board games! J
Our class collected the
most Box Tops Labels for Education, Campbell’s soup labels, and Best Choice
labels last month. We have the award in
our room. THANK YOU so much for your
help with this cause!
We will have an
Easter/Resurrection party during the morning of Tuesday, April 22nd,
after we are back from Easter break. I
will just have fun Easter stations, and learning that day, where we celebrate
that Jesus has Risen! If you would like
to send in snacks, feel free to do so!
It will be a fun day! Thank
you!
Religion- We have been talking about the 3 men in the
fiery furnace this week, as well as our friend, Daniel, and the lions! It was fun to review the story we have been
learning so much about during our musical practices. We are also working hard on memorizing those
New Testament books, and will finished tem up next Tuesday.
Reading/Spelling- We will all learn new spelling words, reading
stories, and vocabulary words next week, but we will NOT test over them until
the Friday after Easter, April 25th.
This week, we enjoyed the following stories:
3rd- The Journey of
Oliver K. Woodman (this was a neat story about a traveling friend!)
4th- The Ever-Living
Tree (about the mighty sequoia)
Science-We finished up our unit over Living Things last week and tested over the information on Monday. The students did fantastic! It is neat to see how so much of our new science knowledge helps us when we read our reading stories and when we talk about interesting things in our lives. I love how these concepts always seem to tie together!
Handwriting- Check out our display in the hallway! Our
cursive is beautiful!
Math- Third graders are finishing up their chapter about division, and really doing well memorizing!!! Fourth graders tested over the beginning stages of long division and will continue adding more digits next week. Many students have all been working hard on our mad minutes too. I am sure your child has given you the update about how he or she is doing in this process. Keep up the good work at home!
Special Classes:
Art-We created two projects this week, using water colors. First, we learned how to “wash” watercolors,
and created lake and mountain scenery.
Then, using some of the same skills, we crated colorful watercolor
washes, and then used markers to create circus scenes. These are lively and so much fun! We will finish up this next week! Please also come and see our creation for
Trivia Night! (There is also a picture
online.)
Writing/Computer- We worked on mom stories and are working
diligently on our biography runs…taking notes and coloring. Book report forms
for full-time students are coming home today.
Home-school students will work on the rug at school, but can read their
biographies and take notes at home!
P.E.- We worked on track and field events. We did some conditioning, practiced the
running long jump, and did an obstacle course.
Fun!
Music- We continued to practice our parts and songs
for the upcoming musical on April 25th. Pastor Rich led our practices on
Tuesday and Thursday. Everyone is so excited, and it is neat to see the
whole thing come together. What a great
experience for everyone….!
Enrollment is still underway! It's exciting to see our
numbers increase. If you haven't gotten your paperwork in, we encourage you to
do so as soon as possible!
TIMOTHY LUTHERAN SCHOOL
– APRIL MISSION PROJECT
We have the opportunity
to support two Timothy Lutheran School graduates who are responding to God’s
call to spread the Gospel. Samantha Hatfield and Rebecca Patterson, who
graduated in 2012, are going on a mission trip to Nicaragua May 24-31.
They will travel with a
faith-based organization, Project Hope. Project hope is based out of
Springfield, Missouri. Rebecca’s father is a director for Project
Hope. He has been traveling to Nicaragua for quite some time. Volunteers
will help build houses for displaced Nicaraguans, or for those with inferior
housing. They will also help lead VBS for the children of the village.
For more information about Project Hope, visit their website. www.pjhope.org
As part of their
mission, Project Hope will bring clothing, toys, household and hygiene items to
families in Nicaragua. Sami & Becca’s travel group is bringing
hygiene items. We can help supply items for the families in need.
