Third and Fourth Grade News
April 10, 2014
Hello! I am sending out my short and sweet
newsletter this afternoon, because I will not be gone tomorrow....Mrs.
Pascoe is going to sub for me, so the kids will have such a fun day!
Trivia
Night was such a success, and so much fun!
It
brought in just over $10,250 for our school ministry. We are praising God
for what He has provided and the opportunities it will mean for our school
ministry. Thank you for your continued support of our schools. It
is such a pleasure for us to serve as partners in your child's faith and
education.
We will have an Easter/Resurrection party next Tuesday
morning, April 22nd, after we are back from Easter break. I will have fun Easter stations, and learning
that day, when we celebrate that Jesus has Risen! If you would like to send in snacks, feel
free to do so! It will be a fun day!
We have practiced a lot for the musical this
week! We are only about a week and a
half away! Next Friday, April 25th,
at 7:00 is the time and day! We are so
excited… J
Religion- This week, we have been discussing the
prophets, and how they foretold of Jesus coming. We will test over all the New Testament books
next week.
Reading/Spelling- This week, we learned our new spelling words
and stories, but we will not test over those until next Friday. We began Book Clubs this week, where the kids
discussed different things about their stories to take the learning to a new
level. They each had a job to bring to the
discussion. One child had to find
difficult words, one illustrated their favorite picture, one found important passages
and what they mean, one made a text connection, and one listed questions they
had while they were reading. This really
brought discussion to a neat level. It also
is great team-building. Some kids forgot
to their jobs, and let the other members down, so we have learned from these
experiences as well. We will continue
doing this unit until the end of the school year, as we finish up our reading
stories.
Missouri History-
We began another unit
in Missouri History and are learning about early life in Missouri. The children have already begun studying their
vocab words and will bring home a study guide for this short chapter soon. We will soon begin learning about famous Missourians
and each child will choose one to study before we have our Living Museum in
May! Exciting times!
Handwriting- Check out our display in the hallway! Our
cursive is beautiful!
Math- We have several students on their way to Winstead’s! Yeah! Thank you for working with your child on their facts. Third graders this week worked with word problems and division, and fourth graders worked with where to place the fist digit when completing long division. We add more numbers to our math next week.
Special Classes:
Art-We created two art projects again this
week. First, we completed our Magic
Circus pictures. These will be up for
you to enjoy soon! Secondly, we created
Night Garden pictures, with pastels.
They are pretty!
Writing/Computer- We worked on mom stories and are working diligently on our
biography runs…taking notes and coloring.
P.E.- We worked on track and
field events and played pin dodgeball.
Music- We
continued to practice our parts and songs for the upcoming musical on April
25th. Pastor Rich led our practices on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Enrollment is
still underway! It's exciting to see our numbers increase. If you haven't
gotten your paperwork in, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible!
TIMOTHY LUTHERAN SCHOOL
– APRIL MISSION PROJECT
We have the opportunity to support two Timothy
Lutheran School graduates who are responding to God’s call to spread the
Gospel. Samantha Hatfield and Rebecca Patterson, who graduated in 2012,
are going on a mission trip to Nicaragua May 24-31.
They will travel with a faith-based
organization, Project Hope. Project hope is based out of Springfield,
Missouri. Rebecca’s father is a director for Project Hope. He
has been traveling to Nicaragua for quite some time. Volunteers will help build
houses for displaced Nicaraguans, or for those with inferior housing.
They will also help lead VBS for the children of the village. For
more information about Project Hope, visit their website. www.pjhope.org
As part of their mission, Project Hope will
bring clothing, toys, household and hygiene items to families in Nicaragua.
Sami & Becca’s travel group is bringing hygiene items. We can
help supply items for the families in need. Please bring donations to
