Newsletter 4-4-14

Third and Fourth Grade News
April 4, 2014
Hello!  We have had another busy week...getting ready for tests, Trivia Night, the musical, and SPRING!

Religion- We have been talking about Jonah this week, and how he tried to
hide from God and ignore God’s request.  We paralleled this to our own lives… We prayed for God’s strength to do what God has asked of each of us.  Today, we said all the Old Testament books for memory.  Most of the children did fantastic! Next week, we will begin memorizing New Testament books.

Science-We finished up our unit over Living Things this week.  The
children have been working studiously on their study guides, and studying the Science Jeopardy. I have sent this home via email for all the kids to practice.  I have to apologize, because I did not realize that this was not blind-copied, and that all the addresses were present.  I am new to Google docs and still figuring things out, so I am so sorry!  Please accept my apology.  By the time we are ready for another, I will have it figured out, or I will just send each one independently.  Thank you.  As I have reminded the kids, all of the questions from the test are on the study guide *should come home today) and in the game!  They can do this!  They have learned so much about God's amazing creation from this Science chapter!   We will test over this information on Monday.

Handwriting- We have begun learning capital cursive letters this week! Check out our display in the hallway!

Math- Third graders are continuing in the beginning stages of division, and worked with word problems this week:  expressions and equations.  Fourth graders have tackled long division!!! Thank you so much for working with them.  I can tell!   I told them that someday soon, they would say, “Oh, this is easy!”  Yeah!  They are also working with word problems and when to use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in real world problems.  Again, please, please, remind third and fourth grades, to study those facts!  We will plan to take our Winstead’s trip for all people who memorize them in the middle of May.  :) Many of your children are testing out levels at lightning speed!  It is so exciting!  Keep practicing at home...and handing in those Math Madness sheets!

Reading/Spelling- Both classes read some interesting this week!
3rd- The Journey: Story of Migrations (A nonfiction book about the migration of locusts and whales. )
4th- I Can Do That (The nonfiction story about Esther Morris)

Special Classes:
Art-We painted with bubbles to create the last pages for our Trivia Night project!  I will send out a photo when it is completed!
Writing/Computer- We worked on partner stories, mom stories, and began discussions about our biography reports. We worked on the art portion of our “biography rugs.”  The students also began taking notes on biographies.  Each child homeschool included, have picked out a biography to read and research.
P.E.- We played Dr. Dodgeball!  Fun!  We will begin track and field next week!
Music- We continue to practice our parts and songs for the upcoming musical on April 25th.
Enrollment is still underway! It's exciting to see our numbers increase. If you haven't gotten your paperwork in, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible!
Trivia Night tickets are for sale.  Trivia Night is our biggest fundraising event of the year and we hope you will all join us!  It is always so much fun!  Our class’ art project will be up for auction too!   Tickets will be available in the school office, following all church worship services, or by sending the order form back to school.  Please pay careful attention to the information at the bottom of the order form—advance ticket prices are good only through Friday, April 7 in the school office.  We are looking forward to a successful and fun event!  We hope to see all of you there!

We will be having our first track practice after school next Thursday, April 10th, from 3:45-5:00.  All 4th grade boys and girls are invited!  Our meets include all short distance runs (50m-200m), long distance runs (800m-1600mm), softball throw for 5th/6th grades, shot put and discus for older grades, long jumps, triple jumps, and other activities.  Practices will be every Tuesday and Thursday after school until May 15th.  Please let me know if your 4th grader is interested!  3rd grade has something fun to look forward to next year!

TIMOTHY LUTHERAN SCHOOL – APRIL MISSION PROJECT
We have the opportunity to support two Timothy Lutheran School graduates who are responding to God’s call to spread the Gospel.  Samantha Hatfield and Rebecca Patterson, who graduated in 2012, are going on a mission trip to Nicaragua May 24-31.
They will travel with a faith-based organization, Project Hope.  Project hope is based out of Springfield, Missouri.   Rebecca’s father is a director for Project Hope.  He has been traveling to Nicaragua for quite some time. Volunteers will help build houses for displaced Nicaraguans, or for those with inferior housing.  They will also help lead VBS for the children of the village.  For more information about Project Hope, visit their website.  www.pjhope.org As part of their mission, Project Hope will bring clothing, toys, household and hygiene items to families in Nicaragua.  Sami & Becca’s travel group is bringing hygiene items.  We can help supply items for the families in need.  Please bring donations to school by April 30.
