Third and Fourth Grade News
From the Week
of October 17, 2014
Dear Parents,
LET’S GO R-O-Y-A-L-S!!!! We have been talking a lot about baseball
here in this classroom, wearing a ton of blue, and reveling in the fact that we
are all part of this bit of history! It
is so fun and wonderful! The kids even
think it is neat to hear my stories of remembering 29 years ago, and watching
the World Series… I was in 6th grade. Seems like yesterday… J
Thank you so much for your prayers this week. The doctor was not able to give us any
answers about Emma’s eye, but we are hopeful.
She goes back again next week with her dad, and we will get some
direction then. We are continually
reminded about how blessed we are.
Our fall party is Friday, October
31st. An online permission slip was sent
out. Please let me know if you
have any questions, or have trouble signing up.
Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for next
week, on October 23 & 24. An sign-up email went out about this as well. Don’t forget to schedule a time! I SO look forward to meeting with each of
you!
Students are responding
well to Mission Project challenge, “Operation
Christmas Child.” We were urged last
week to bring in hygiene items, and this week, we were asked to bring in school
supplies. Please continue to do
this! You can also bring in
all-ready-to-go boxes! Thank you for
your generosity!
Basketball will be beginning in November! Each student, grades 4th-8th,
can participate on a team! The boys’
teams (4th/5th/6th and 7th/8th)
are coached by Mr. Nathan Parker and practices will be on Tuesday evenings at 7:00
and Sundays at 3:00. The girls’ teams (4th/5th/6th
and 7th/8th) are coached by Mr. Ed Kuerschner and Mr.
Jeff Mundt and practices are after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays at
3:45. Games begin in December and are
typically on Friday nights and Saturday mornings. Please let me know if your child is
interested by emailing me. Thank you so
much!
Here is what we did this week:
In Religion, we talked a lot about
Martin Luther, and learned about his life.
Today we discussed what saints are.
We will continue to learn about the Reformation complete several fun
projects with it next week and the following.
Memory work for next week is:
October
21-THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT
Honor
your father and your mother. What does this mean? We should fear
and love God so that we do not despise or anger our parents and other
authorities,
October
24-but honor them, serve and obey them, love and cherish them.
In Language
Arts this week, third graders read a story about what illustrators do
and fourth graders learned about how movies are made to be exciting. Both were very informative essays, and ones
that we can learn from.
In Math,
third graders finished up their chapter with longer subtraction and will test
over it on Monday, and fourth graders tested over their unit about variables
and addition properties. They began
working with telling time and scheduling this week.
In Science
this week, we began our study of animals and their parts. We have talked about how many of them have
structures that help them eat, breathe, and survive. We will continue to work on our vocabulary
words here at school.
During Art,
we created clowns with different shades of one primary color, by using black
and white to mix the shades. We studied
clowns, their faces, their body language, and had a lot of fun with this
creation.
In P.E.
this week, we learned Rapid Fire! This
is a fun version of dodge ball where each person is on their own and trying to
be the last person standing!
For Writers’
Workshop, we continued writing Personal Narratives! These stories are really turning out so
wonderfully. I am excited to share them
with you.
For Computer
Lab this week, we worked on our typing program, and started publishing
our personal narratives.
In Music
this week, we
started learning our song for our Sunday morning performance on November 9 at
the South Site. We will be singing 1 song at the 10:00am service. The students
need to be there by 9:40 in the choir room to warm up. They may dress nice or
wear a Timothy shirt. If parents have
any questions, please contact me at Mrs. Patterson at lindseyp@timothylutheran.com. If a your child is
not able to attend, please contact her by November 6th.
In Spanish,
the students have been studying the “word of the day!” There will be a quiz on Thursday October 23rd.
