Third and Fourth Grade News
From the Week of October 13, 2014
Dear Parents,
Hello! I am sorry I am a little late in posting and sending this! Thank you for understanding...what a busy weekend with tournaments, etc. Congratulations to our boys for their third place win in the K.C.L.A.L. soccer tournament and to our girls for doing so great in their volleyball tournament! We all had great sportsmanship, and had a lot of fun! It was a great and busy week...

We are headed out to Memaw’s house for a tractor ride, a scavenger hunt, games, and playing. Then we will head down the road to an old schoolhouse for lunch and our party. What fun! Please let me know if you have any questions.
During Art , we wove construction paper pumpkins. These are hanging in the hall outside our room. So beautiful!
In P.E. this week, we played Four Quadrants, which is a variation of Dodge Ball. We also played Capture the Flag, which you may remember from your childhood. What fun!
For Writers’ Workshop, we began our personal narratives. Each child began writing about a personal experience he or she has had. They will go thought the entire writing process with it. I get so excited to read these.... :)
For Computer Lab this week, we began typing our narratives. Please urge your child to use the "home keys."
In Music this week, we played with instruments and discussed the scale.
I will be gone Tuesday (tomorrow), as my oldest daughter, Emma, is having trouble with her eye again. We are traveling to St. Louis to see a specialist there. Please keep my family in your prayers. Mrs. Barnett will be subbing for me. You can keep her in your prayers too! ;) Thank you so much!

Full-Time Students:
We had so much fun at the School of Economics! I was so impressed with our kiddos, as I watched them in action...They were excellent models of Christian behavior as they showed grace and patience to others around them. :) Each of stores also paid off their loans, and learned a lot about economics, loans, and money! I will post pictures soon!
In Religion, we have begun to learn all about Martin Luther. We will dig more into his life this week.
Memory work for next week is:
October 14-THE THIRD COMMANDMENT
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
October 17-What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not despise preaching and His Word, but hold it sacred and gladly hear and learn it.
In Language Arts, third graders read a story entitled, Max's Words, and then each student has a partner in which they have to find "words" from magazines, etc. to create stories too! Fourth graders read a story called Once Upon a Motorcycle Dude...This was such a fun partner-type story. This group also has partners and are creating a story together! Please check out the new book covers hanging in our reading classroom! Fourth graders got their book report information about their second report. They need to read a book with an animal as the main character and make a Brown Paper Bag Report. Look for the details that came home! Third graders need to read a mystery book and have their reports completed by October 17th! SOON!!!
In Science , we have been learning about plants and did a lot of review today.
In Math, third graders learned how to subtract longer numbers using regrouping, and practiced with using zeroes. They are doing well! They will test over this this week. Fourth graders are beginning to work with telling time.
