Newsletter 5-8-15

Hello, Parents!  This has been such a fun week for the kids and for me!  First of all, THANK YOU for all of your treats, gifts, and notes this week for Teacher Appreciation Week.  I feel so appreciated and loved, and you have been so generous and kind.  J  God has blessed me richly with all of you and your awesome children.  Thank you for sharing them with me!
This week has also been so amazing because Mr. Nate Eaton, a former student of mine and a student at Concordia College, Seward, Nebraska,  was here Wednesday, Thursday, and today to do some student-teaching!  Wow!  What a talented young man, with such a future!  The students adored him, and they learned so very much from him.  He completed a mini-unit about Washington, D.C. On Wednesday, he taught the kiddos all about the monuments and then they were able to build them out of Legos, and place them on a neat map.  What fun for them!  Thursday, he talked about our government and the role of it, focusing on the President.  He then had the kids make a up a confidential problem either in a pretend society or in a real one, and then the children had to assume the role as the leader/president and solve the problem.  Some of these were super-tough, and really opened their eyes to the complexity of the job. We prayed for our President and country.  Today, we discussed the question,” What if we did not have a government or laws?”  Each child was given a job, and he or she was faced with at a scenario in which there was not  a government to instill laws or order.  While it was fun, the children were able to see first-hand what our country would look like without those set laws.  What a disaster!  He ended the discussion talking about how we are all sinners, how we break God’s Law all the time, and how we need to repent.  The kiddos each wrote a sin or a worry or a fear on a rock, took that prayer to God, and then tossed their sin away.  (We threw our rocks as hard as we could in to the field!).  It was wonderful!
Please pray for Mr. Nate as he finishes his college career, and heads into the ministry as a fellow educator.  I feel SO blessed to serve with him.  J  Thanks, Nathan!

We had our first official cross-country race this Tuesday.  The team did so well…and I would love to highlight our runners in this classroom:  Will Gannan, Nolan Mercer, Annabel Myers, Zachary Neer, and Sydney Robbins.  They did a great job!  We have our first track meet tomorrow at Center High School in Kansas City from 9-3:30.  Come and cheer us on!   (Our Ana Pastora will also be there for that meet.)

Next week, we will have TimOlympics every day, but Friday.  Make sure your child fills you in on all the fun we will be having!  Each child will have a team of members 3rd-8th, and they will be competing in brain games, athletic games, and creative games.  Winner will be announced the last day of school!  Go Timothy!   (We will still have specials classes at our normal times on Tuesday/Thursday afternoons.)

Our All-School FUN DAY, is Friday, May 15th.  All students, including home-school friends, are invited to come.  We will have fun with all sorts of outdoor and indoor games, eating lunch outside, and fun all around!

Please mark our Graduation date (5/17) on your calendars.  We would love for all students and families to be able to attend, as each grade will be involved in the program!  We are so proud of all of our graduates!!!

We will take our final field trip as a class on Monday, May 18th.  All of our class is invited to come!  Weather permitting, we will head out to Burr Oak woods and hike some trails in the morning, and go to Railroad Park to picnic and play.  A Sign-Up Genius came home last week.  Thank you!

We will be having our class auction on Tuesday, the 19th.  The children have earned money all year from their classroom jobs, and they can spend it at our store, or save it for the auction.  We will be “auctioning” off our class-made books and posters, some of our artwork, and items from the store.  If you have any new or gently used games, books, toys, etc. that you would like to donate, please send them my way!  Thank you!

Enrollment is still underway!  If you haven’t resubmitted your forms, please do so as soon as possible.  This will help us make necessary preparations for next year!

Here’s what we have been up to:

In Religion  this week, we talked about sin and the power of Baptism.

Memory for the rest of the school year:
May 12-Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.  Matthew 5:44

Language Arts: This week, the 3rd graders read a story called “Becoming Anything He Wants to Be.”  Fourth graders read “Museums:  Wonders of the World.”  Missouri’s own City Museum in St. Louis was featured, as well as the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., which Mr. Nate talked about.  J  This was our last Reading story and set of Spelling words this school year!  Whoopee!  Next week, for fun, we will have a classroom fun quiz on all of the “challenge words” from the year.  They are all posted in the classroom, so students should study up!  …just for a fun time.  3rd graders’ biography rug book reports are due on Thursday.  Most of them have already shared their creations.  Please check with your child if they have their research paper turned in.  This was due today, but I have given some an extension.  Thank you.

In Math this week, third graders learned how to multiply 2-digit numbers.   Fourth graders worked with long division, and are doing so well!  We will continue to have math almost every until the end of the year.  We finished up our Problem Solvers this week.  Those fun books came home for you to view!  See if you can solve them… ;)  We go to celebrate our multiplication successes next Wednesday after school.
