Newsletter 9-11-15

Hello, parents!  It has been a fun week! Here is what we have been up to in 3rd/4th Grade: :)

Religion- We talked about Abrahm, Sarai, and Lot and how God blesses us.  We must always remember to turn to Him in our times of need...

Language Arts- The third graders read “Destiny’s Gift,” and we talked a lot about character, and how to make other feel loved and appreciated.  Fourth graders read “How Tia Lola Came to Stay,” and learned how our actions sometimes really affect others.  We reviewed the differences between sentences and questions.

Math- Both grade levels tested over Chapter 2 today, and did well!  In the next chapters, the third graders will cover number sense...learning addition properties, and reviewing how to solve longer addition problems.  Fourth graders are also covering number sense on a higher level, where they have to complete some mental math and estimating sums and differences, as well as solving longer problems with zeroes.

Social Studies- We are headfirst into chapter 2 of Missouri History books. This week we learned about hemispheres, continents, countries, counties, and where Missouri is in relation to other places in the world.  Today, we discussed September 11th. We reviewed the Bible verse,

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39.

P.E.- This week in P.E., we learned how to serve the volleyball, and we worked on control our passes and getting them to a target.

Art- We learned all about line.  We talked about different types of lines, and then created contour pictures of animals, and decorated them with line.  Later, we will add colorful watercolor to the background  They are beautiful!

Music- This week with Mrs. Pennington, we studied Beethoven and his 5th Symphony. We are getting really good at identifying notes and rests.

Computers-This week, we began typing our first poems. We will be working more steadily in the library/computer lab, so we can get these published!

Writers’ Workshop- This week, we worked on our stories and our "I Poems." These are awesome and the children cannot wait to share them with you!
