Dear Parents,
What a
week! Your kiddos are working hard!
Here are some reminders:
-Labor Day is MONDAY!!
We will not have school, so we’ll see you back, ready to learn, on
TUESDAY.
-We will have our Book Fair at school all next week! We still need some volunteers to run the cash
register. (Volunteers get credit for
free books!!) Please sign up to work a shift at: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/508084FA4AA2CA64-fall
-The Fall Fun Fest is getting closer!! Mrs. Fangmann emailed out a sign-up genius
for helpers to park cars during the Fall Fun Fest (September 18-20.) If you’re
able to help out, we have the potential to raise over $1,000 for our school!
-School picture day is September 14! Order forms came home with your kiddos this
week, but in case you’ve lost your form, you can order online! Go
to https://inter-state.com/shop and enter order code: 01770VB.
-New information about the Fall Fun Fest Parade (Saturday,
9/19): we would like students and families at our starting point by 9:45 that
morning. We are still working on the
theme of our “float” and we don’t know what spot we’ll be in the parade
yet. We’ll continue to keep you updated
as we get that information.
Here is what we have been up to:
Religion- We continued our study of Cain and Abel, as well
as the Tower of Babel. We talked about
praising the name of God, rather than singing out won praises! Less of me, and more of YOU! We focused on the verse from Psalm
103:1… “Bless the Lord, O my soul; and
all that is within me, bless His holy name.” And...of course, we then broke
into song! :)
Language Arts- The third graders read “The Trial of Cardigan
Jones,” and learned some new words that have to do with a courtroom….Fourth
graders read the historical story called “My Brother Martin,” written by Martin
Luther King Jr.’s sister. It was a
wonderful story, and let to some awesome discussions! Please continue to practice your child’s
vocabulary words each week. These are
always located at the beginning of the story.
They will be tested on these each Friday.
Math- Both grade levels tested over Chapter 1 this week, and
did well! Later in the week, as a whole
class, we worked on comparing numbers, and ordering numbers. We then broke off into our own grade-level
math, and completed separate assignments.
Third graders focused on numbers up to the ten-thousands’ place, and the
fourth graders focused on numbers up to the hundred-millions’ place. We are also focusing on number sense. Please continue to practice math facts
(addition and multiplication) at home with your child through flash cards and
computer games. Thank you!
Social Studies- We took our Chapter 1 test and did very
well! Next week, we will study the
hemispheres, and work with map skills, as well as learning the different land
features in Missouri. We will focus on
September 11th, 2001, next Friday.
P.E.- This week in P.E., practiced volleyball skills—setting,
dinking, and tipping!
Music- With Mrs. Pennington, we are learning the names of
notes and what they look like, what rests look lik, and we played a fun bowling
game that brought all of these skills together.
Writers’ Workshop- We are writing like crazy, we will begin
publishing next week. Next week, we will
also crate “I Poems.”
Art- We finished our color wheels with the primary,
secondary, and tertiary colors, and painted our Expressionistic paintings from last
week. They are beautiful and will be up
in the hallway soon!
