Hello, parents! Did this week speed by for any of you? Goodness, we were busy! :) THANK YOU so much for the birthday gifts and well-wishes! I was so surprised by the students and the party they threw...and all of the generous gifts, cards, and hugs. I felt like a queen all day. Thank you so much!
A reminder: The last day of 1st quarter is next Friday, October 16th. We will get out at 1:00 to help teachers prepare for grade cards. :) Please make sure your child has all of his or her corrections in by that date, so that I may finish up grading. Thank you!
Below is what we have been up to!

Below is what we have been up to!
Religion- This week, we practiced our chapel for our ECC friends. Our question to them was, "How in the world can we possibly measure God's love?" We decided that we cannot measure God's love, no matter how hard we try, but our job is to SPREAD His love! All of the children did a great job, and we worked so hard to prepare! Thank you to those that were able to help transport us. I appreciate it so much! In class, we learned about Joseph and his brothers, and we also discussed what to do when we become jealous. We are all sinners and fall short of God's glory, but know that we are forgiven, and will inherit that kingdom! We role played some ways to overcome the temptation to give into our jealous natures. We had some very good discussions in here! Also, in chapel this week, we watched an inspiring video of a young boy who had received an Operation Christmas Child package as a youngster, and how it has changed his life. Thank you SO MUCH for showing kids around the world a little extra love. Let's get those supplies and shoe boxes in!
Pastor Rod came in and had memory work with the students on Tuesday. Each of them passed their New Testament "quiz" with him! He will come in every once in awhile to help us with memory. This is such a special treat! :)

Language Arts- We have been busy learning about Fudge and all his antics in Judy Blume's "Superfudge." We also read the following fun stories as classes:
3rd-”What Do Illustrators Do?”
4th-”Me and Uncle Romie"
Both of these selections talked about different types of artists. They were so interesting and inspiring!
Next week, 3rd and 4th grade will all read the same reading selection entitled, " A Very Important Day." This story reflects eight families and their journey to America, and then receiving their United Sates citizenship on this "very important day." This ties in so well with our School of Economics unit. We will all have the same spelling words too...only 10 of them, as they are a bit tougher.

Math-
Both groups took tests yesterday and are doing well. Third grade finished up their long subtraction unit. Fourth grade finished up their introduction to variables and balancing equations unit. Today, we began a whole class instruction on money. We will review money and how to count it, and then work with making change and adding and subtracting larger amounts. This will get us ready for our field trip too!
Social Studies- The children did so well on their Chapter 2 test. These will be coming home in Friday Folders. For the next three weeks, during Social Studies time, we will be meeting with the 5th/6th graders and getting our shops ready for School of Economics. Today, we had our campaigns and held our election, and 6th grader, Makayla Engle is our new mayor! Congratulations! We also held job interviews. Thank you for helping kiddos with their applications. Mrs. Barber and I will announce jobs on Wednesday and will also break off into our shops/countries to start planning. Today, the kids watched "An American Tail," Disney's cute version of a family's trip to America and Ellis Island. The kids completed a character study on each of the characters.
P.E.- This week in P.E., we worked with scooters and scooter skills. Next week, we will pout these to use, and play Scooter Soccer!
Art- We finished our cat contours and began working on Fall Parade pictures, which are really cool crayon resists. Our hallway is going to be beautiful and full of Autumn color!
Music- With Mrs. Pennington, we worked on note recognition and on our musical. The children are improving on reading music! I am so proud of them! They have been working hard on their songs for the Christmas Musical, which is December 20th, and is entitled "Mayhem in Bethlehem." If you are interested in purchasing a cd of the songs from Mr. Burns, please let me know. They are $5.99. This would be an excellent way to practice. Thank you! Also, if anyone is interested in piano lessons from Mrs. Pennington, please contact her at lakeland1980@hotmail.com
Writers’ Workshop- This week, we continued work on our personal narratives, and are almost finished! These are due October 23rd.
