Newsletter 10-16-15

Hello, Parents!  We have had a great, and busy week!  As you know, today was our dear Kathy's last day, so we all made her a card, gave her hugs, and prayed with her.  We will miss her so much!  God is SO good, though, and has blessed us with an amazing new secretary, Mrs. Kristen Anderson, and we are excited that she will be with us from now on... Please stop by the office sometime soon to introduce yourself and give well-wishes.  Many of you know her as Christian's, Malinda's, and Morgan's mom.  :)

Today, we had a special guest, Mr. Matthew Eaton, who is a student at Concordia College in Seward, NB.  He is studying to become a teacher, and asked if he could come and observe and help me today, so we were so thankful to have him!

Today is the last day of 1st quarter.  Can you believe it?  Report cards will come home at conferences next Thursday and Friday.  If you have not signed up yet, please do soon.  Here is the link:

We will dismiss at 1:00 both next Thursday and Friday, for conferences. Homeschool friends, remember we will have MORNING classes on Thursday, so feel free to arrive between 8:15 and 8:30.  You are welcome to pick up your child around noon at the front, or, they are more than welcome to bring a lunch and eat with us!  If your child is staying, you will pick them up out by the playground.

Here is what we have been up to this week:
Religion- We learned the stories of Job and of Moses this week, and how God used these men of faith to be an example for others.  We talked about how Job was having a "very bad day,"  yet how he never blamed God or turned his back on God.  We talked about our "bad days," and how we handle them... It was such a good discussion!  Today we learned the story of Moses and talked about adoption, and how we are "adopted" into God's family through Holy Baptism and through faith in Jesus Christ.  We are so happy to be brothers and sisters in Christ!  In chapel this week, we received brown paper bags for Operation Christmas child.  Please fill these up and send them back to school!   Let's get those supplies and shoe boxes in!

Language Arts-
This week, we read reading selection entitled, " A Very Important Day."  This story reflects eight families and their journey to America, and then receiving their United Sates citizenship on this "very important day."  This ties in so well with our School of Economics unit.  We loved this story!

Math-
We worked on money recognition and counting this week.  We counted back change, found equivalent sets of money, and practiced adding and subtracting larger amounts of money.  Some of the students really struggle with this.  Please practice counting money at home, by dumping out a wallet or change purse.  It is such good practice!  Next week, we will work with counting back change out loud with a customer.  :)

Social Studies- For School of Economics, each child received their job placement and began working with their shops--making the signs, working on passports, learning about their respective countries, and pricing items.

P.E.- This week in P.E., we played Scooter Soccer!
Art- We finished our Fall Parade pictures, which are really cool crayon resists. Our hallway is going to be beautiful and full of Autumn color!
Music- With Mrs. Pennington, we worked on note recognition and on our musical.  We also began learning about Handel, and are watching a short film about him and his beautiful music.  They have been working hard on their songs for the Christmas Musical, which is December 20th, and is entitled "Mayhem in Bethlehem."   If you are interested in purchasing a cd of the songs from Mr. Burns, please let me know.  They are $5.99.  This would be an excellent way to practice.  Thank you!
Writers’ Workshop- This week, we continued work on our personal narratives, and are almost finished!  These are due October 23rd.
