Hello, parents! I
hope you have had a wonderful week! I am
again sending this out early because I will not be at school tomorrow. My 8th grade daughter, Emma, will
be having eye surgery tomorrow morning in St. Louis, so we are headed out of
town this evening. Mrs. Stack has so
generously offered AGAIN to substitute for my class. She is amazing, and such a wonderful
teacher!
We have had a fun week!
Here is what we have been up to:
Religion-We have been talking about the Exodus, and
the receiving of the 10 commandments, and what each one means. This week we recited the 7th and 8th
commandments in class. Today we also
talked quite extensively on the terror that is happening in the world. L We discussed how this is the work of Satan in
the world, and how we need to cling to Jesus and trust in God. We know the TRUTH, and our job is to love
others, and spread His love. Mrs. Barber
shared a beautiful devotional by Max Lucado with me, and I thought I would pass
it onto you:
Math-Third grade began multiplication with cheers
this week! We have learned how to
multiply by 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, and began taking mad minutes over them. PLEASE practice with your child at home
either using flash cards or online games.
They will need to memorize these.
In May ( it WILL be here before we know it@!), we will have a fun
Winstead’s party to celebrate those that could memorize all their facts from
0-10. This has been a fun incentive
for 3rd/4th
graders at Timothy for many years, and one they look forward to! Fourth graders have been working on relating
multiplication and division and working with word problems and variables. They too are working toward that Winstead’s
trip! 4th graded tested today
and will begin working with graphs and tables next week.
Language Arts/History- We all read the story “Across the
Wide, Dark Sea” this week, which was about the Pilgrims’ journey to America,
and their first days here. We had
spelling and vocabulary words from this story and learned so much! We created Wampanoag headdresses and pilgrim
hats and had a great time. Be sure to
ask your child about neat facts he or she learned. Wednesday we had our amazing feast! Thank you for sending in the delicious food…my
was it awesome!
Please note that the 4th grade book report is due
Monday, November 30th.
P.E.- This week in P.E., we played dodgeball and four
quadrants. Next P.E. period we will begin
our basketball unit by learning to pass—the chest pass, the bounce pass, and
the overhead pass.
Art- We wrote about what we are thankful for and
created a picture depicting it. They are
beautiful!
Writers’ Workshop/Computer Time- We finished up
writing about what our families do on Thanksgiving and what one of our favorite
recipes is. These are assembled into a
class book that each child received today.
Thanks for you for your help with this!
In Computer Class, we have been publishing like crazy!
Music- With Mrs. Pennington, we practiced and
reviewed notes and beats. We also worked
on our Advent and Christmas program songs.
Below is the Saturday practice schedule for our Christmas
program this December. The first one is
THIS Saturday. It is here, and you can
walk your child in, check in with an adult, and then come and pick them up two
hours later. Please try and make
it. If you are unable, please let either
Mrs. Pennington or Mr. Burns know. Thank
you!
