Hello, parents! I
hope you have had an amazing wonderful week!
We have been so busy, but having loads of fun! The children did an AMAZING job at the Advent
services! A lot of our time on Monday
and Tuesday was spent rehearsing for this.
Thank you for your help with this too… We had so much fun sharing the
beautiful message of the prophets—that our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace was coming to us, as a baby, that one
Christmas so very long ago. We are so
blessed! J
*Mid-terms came home on Tuesday. Please make sure you glance this over, and
sign and return it. Thank you.
*Our school did an amazing job collecting for Operation
Christmas Child. We put together 154
boxes!!! (We beat our goal!) THANK YOU for all of your support, prayers,
and love! Overall, as Timothy’s South
Site was a collection center for OCC, there were 1,415 boxes collected during
collection week!!! Isn’t that
amazing?! These boxes have all been
sent to one of eight processing centers where they will be prepared for
shipment to Mexico. J
Please keep the children who will be receiving these boxes
in your thoughts and prayers as we enter the Christmas season.
*Each year, in the 3rd/4th grades,
instead of exchanging gifts for one another, I urge the children to help
purchase some gifts for some children who may not get very many gifts this
year. I have chosen four children off
our Giving Trees here at Timothy, and thought we could help support these
kiddos! Below, I have stated their
sex/ages/needs/wants. If you are able,
please send in a few dollars and I will go and purchase some things for them,
or you can send in an item, and as a class, we will assemble and wrap gifts,
and insert some Christmas cards sharing Christ’s love. I love this service project that we do. I believe it helps us all count our
blessings. J I have told the kiddos too, that if your
family is not able to contribute, it is okay!
Please just pray! Thank you in
advance for your support. We will need
these gifts by December 11th, next Friday, to ensure that they
get them for Christmas.
Here are the kids:
-Girl, age 9, who would like purple or pink long sleeve
shirts (size girls 10-12) and any color leggings (girls size 8)
-Girl, age 12,who needs shirts (L) or pants/shorts (size 12)
-2-5 year old boy –toy
-6-9 year old girl – toy
THANK YOU!
*Please mark your calendars!
We are going bowling at Lunar Bowl and caroling at Benton House on
Thursday, December 17th. We
will go bowling from 9-11 at Lunar Bowl.
This year, students will not need to pay, as it is the school’s gift to
them, but if you would like to join us and bowl, it is $6.00. Your child may bring money for snacks. We will come back to school for lunch, and
then will got to Benton House to carol at 1:15.
I hope some of you will be able to join us! A sign-up will be coming home soon! Thank you!
Here is what we have been up to at school:
Religion-We have been discussing the 10 commandments,
and how the people of Israel continued to grumbled as they walked in the
desert—and how this is so similar to us, and our grumblings and
complaints. We watched “The Prince of
Egypt” this week, and compared the movie to the actual readings from the
Bible. We had such interesting
conversations!
Math-Third grade tested over multiplication Chapters
8 and 9 this week! They are doing SO
well, and I am proud of their efforts!
They have begun taking multiplication mad minutes like crazy too, and
are doing well. Please continue to
practice with them at home. PLEASE
practice with your child at home either using flash cards or online games. They will need to memorize these. In May ( it WILL be here before we know it!),
we will have a fun Winstead’s party to celebrate those that could memorize all
their facts from 0-10. This has been a
fun incentive for 3rd/4th graders at Timothy
for many years, and one they look forward to!
Next week, we will focus on finding missing factors, and the
multiplication properties. Fourth
graders have been working on relating multiplication and division and working
with word problems and variables. They
too are working toward that Winstead’s trip!
They will begin working with balancing equations and finding rules next
week.
Language Arts- Third grade read “Jump!” this week,
which is the story of Michael Jordan. We
learned quite a bit about this amazing athlete.
Fourth graders read “The Screech Owl Who Liked Television,” which is the
true story of a family who had an owl as a pet for a while. This story was sad, but led to great
conversations about animals and how to care for them. We worked with compound words and synonyms
this week.
P.E.- This week in P.E., we began to learn beginning
basketball skills! We learned the three
types of passes—chest, bounce, and overhead.
Art- We created snow/Christmas pictures, with
beautiful lights, using crayons, paint, and sequins.
Writers’ Workshop/Computer Time- We worked on
finishing up our writings, and then doing some fun work with synonyms, and being
a spelling sleuth!
Music- With Mrs. Pennington, we practiced the Advent
and Christmas songs, as well as reviewed notes.
On Thursday we used musical instruments to stay on the beat of our
favorite Christmas hymns. J
