Hi! Happy Friday! I hope this note finds you
well! I have recopied the important events from my newsletter on Monday,
for a reminder below, and then added details about this week!
All students: Please mark your calendars for two
Sundays - October 16 and October 30. Students will be singing both
mornings. On the 16th, 4th-8th graders will be singing at our south
site (school gym) - be here at 9:45 a.m. We will sit together. The
30th will be at the Blue Springs South auditorium. The entire
congregation/kids will be singing. More info on when to arrive will come
home soon. The church service begins at 10 a.m.
Our first quarter of school is quickly coming to a
close! Our quarter ends next Friday. This means a couple things for
your kids:
1.
We dismiss at 1:00 next Friday.
2.
Any corrected or late papers need to be turned in by next Wednesday.
3.
Parent teacher conferences will be the following week, where you’ll receive
your child’s report card. If you haven’t signed up for a conference, see
the link below.
4.
Third grade
book reports are due on Friday.
Our students in 4th-8th Grade sing at our south campus on
Sunday. Students should report to our gym by 9:45 - they’ll be sitting
together throughout the service.
On Wednesday, October 26, our Early Childhood Center is
having their Harvest Hoe Down, where their kids get to have special craft and
activity stations. Our full-time students will be going over to help the
ECC teachers run the stations. This will be such a WONDERFUL opportunity
for our ECC families to see how great the TLS students are! We get to
meet our pen pals too! Here is the link to sign-up to drive:
Parent-teacher conferences for full-time students are at the
end of the month—October 27 and 28. If you need a different time than what
is listed, please contact me. Here is the link to sign-up:
On Friday, October 28, all students in 3rd/4th grades will
be heading to Memaw’s for the hayride and fall party. Please send in
$3.00 for a pumpkin. Thank you to all of you that have already signed
up! Here is the link to that:
New all-school mission project: Operation Christmas
Child! From now until November 11, we’ll be collecting items to box up
and send with Operation Christmas Child to give Christmas gifts to less
fortunate kids all around the world. Look for fliers and other materials
to come home with your kids in the next few weeks.
School of Economics: Our field trip was last Friday and was
SUCH a success! All the hard work the students put into their learning
definitely paid off. THANK YOU to all of our volunteers that
helped! You are amazing! If you have not paid for the
trip, please send in $7 this week. Thank you!
THANK YOU for all of the sweet birthday wishes, gifts,
cards, and prayers. You all make me feel so loved. I am very
blessed by all of you…
Please keep Mrs. Vogt and her family in your prayers, upon
the death of her mother. We praise our Heavenly Father that she is
eternal rest with Him.
This week:
Religion: We have been talking about the power
of the Holy Spirit, how He lives inside each of us, and how He gives us
faith. Building on this, we discussed the mystery of the Trinity, using
the book “Three in One,” to understand. We also discussed the meaning of
“church,” and how it is not just a building or a congregation, but different
types of denominations, and all-believers around the world! WE are the
church!
Memory for next week:
October 18-When we've been there 10,000 years, bright
shining as the sun; we've no less days to sing God's praise than when we've
first begun.
October 21-
Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise.
Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
Language Arts:
We discussed different types of nouns—common and
proper. We also learned synonyms and antonyms.
3rd grade read the story, “What Illustrators Do,” and 4th
graders read “Coming Distractions.” The stories were very informative
about illustrating books and making movies, respectively.
Math:
3rd graders finished up their units about money and addition
properties. They tested over this material and did very well! Today, we
began subtraction. We talked about doing mental math, and began
regrouping. This is a tough skill for some, so we will continue learning
it next week. Please practice this at home too!
4th graders also finished their unit about money and have
tested over addition/subtraction. They are beginning their chapter over
the relationship between multiplication and division. Monday, we will
have a “catch-up” day where students get caught up on missing work!
Social Studies:
We have finished Chapter 1 about communities. We have
completed the study guide and will test over this on Wednesday. Notes
will come home this weekend to study. Today, we played Jeopardy to help
review. I told the kiddos that ALL of the answers to the test questions
are in this game. J The
kids will have a chance to play this again on their own on Monday.
Music: The kids practiced their songs for upcoming
church services, as well as reviewed note names. Please come by and check
out our work on the wall outside of the music room!
P.E.: We are learning how to play different styles of
dodgeball! This week we learned how to play Pin Dodgeball and Dr.
Dodgeball.
Writing: We have been working SO hard on our personal
narratives! They will be due October 27th. Students
should be able to get most of the work finished in school. If they are at
the publishing step, and need more time, they are to let me know. They
can access the google drive page from home and work on that! Thanks!
Computer: We worked on publishing and on Typing
Web!
Art: We finished up our zentangle
pumpkins. Please check them out in the hallway! We began a weaving
project on Thursday. The first step was to water color and add
designs. We will finish this up next week!
