Hello, 3rd/4th grade parents!
Another October week has sped by! Goodness!
*Today is the end of the first quarter! We are working
on grade cards over the weekend and will have conferences next Thursday and
Friday. If you have not signed up, please do so! We will dismiss at
1:00 both days. I look forward to meeting with you all. Here is the
link to sign-up:
*Next Wednesday, October 26, our Early Childhood Center is
having their Harvest Hoe Down, where their kids get to have special craft and
activity stations. Our full-time students will be going over to help the
ECC teachers run the stations. We get to meet our pen pals! I
believe we have room for all the students if I drive as well. If you
would like to sign-up and drive, though, here is the link:
*AND on Friday, October 28, all students in 3rd/4th grades will
be heading to Memaw’s for the hayride and fall party. Please send in
$3.00 for a pumpkin. Thank you to all of you that have already signed
up! Here is the link to that:
*Please remember to mark your calendars for Sunday, October
30. We will have one church service at the Blue Springs South
auditorium. The entire congregation/kids will be singing. The
church service begins at 10 a.m.
*New all-school mission project: Operation Christmas
Child! From now until November 11, we’ll be collecting items to box up
and send with Operation Christmas Child to give Christmas gifts to less
fortunate kids all around the world. We have already been collecting
items in the hallway, and our basket is pretty full! A flier came home
this week giving more details.
*I have been having a little bit of an issue with toys in
the classroom, and just want to nip it before it gets out-of-hand! I have
reiterated to the kiddos, that I am a HUGE proponent of playing, and I love it
that they play with toys, but they are a disturbance in class and at
school. Please leave them at home. Some of the kids even have
little erasers that come apart, and they play with them during class instead of
doing work, or participating, and I have had to take them away. If you
will, please, discuss this with your child, so they know we are on the same
page! Thank you for your support!
*Donuts with Dad is coming up! Please bring your dad
or special person to school for an early morning treat on Wednesday, November
2, from 7:45-8:15. We would love it if you can stay and join us for chapel at
8:45!
*School pictures have not come in yet, so we have
rescheduled picture retakes. This will now be Wednesday, November 9, at
10:30 in the music room. Pictures should be in within the next few
weeks.
THANK YOU!
This week:
Religion: We learned about Martin Luther and
Reformation! We talked about how he led the reformation of the Christian
church, and the Holy Spirit helped him take a stance against the negative
things being taught at that time. Next week, we will be studying him
too. In fact our Reading selection, spelling words, and English lessons
will all center around Martin. J
We are studying the hymn, “Take My Life and Let It Be”
Memory for next week:
October 25-
Take my voice and let me sing,
Always, only for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.
October 28-
Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne.
Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee.
Language Arts: This week, we read the stories, Harvest
Birds (3rd) and Me and Uncle Romie (4th).
Both were great stories, that led to good discussions! We worked on
reviewing our stories by placing events in a timeline, and also finding idioms
within the stories. Next week, we will take a break from our Journeys
books and read a story in class about Martin Luther. We will even have a
special set of spelling words for the entire class:
Martin Luther
afraid
church
knight
monk
trust
choir
shield
scare
forgiveness
*Reformation
Math: Third graders have been working hard on
subtraction with three and four digit numbers, as well as solving word problems
with subtraction. Fourth graders have been working on basic
multiplication and division facts, writing equations, and word problems.
Today we all learned how to play the games “Money Bags” and “Count Down.”
Fun times!
Social Studies:
We tested over Chapter 1 about communities. The class
did well! We also have been talking about the upcoming presidential
election with our Scholastic News.
Music: This is a summary of 1st
Quarter:
We have such a well-rounded music program here at
Timothy. This quarter, we learned the conducting patterns,
note names, solfege and Italian terms found in music. Both grades sang
rounds, which is preparation for two-part singing. Students are learning
to read musical notation, not just reading the words on a paper. This is
such a talent to have! We also practice the songs for Sundays and special
performances. It is imperative for students to follow directions and be focused
and attentive in class. Most students sit quietly, but there has been an
issue with some not following directions, or talking in class. Keeping
quiet, as in the regular classroom setting, helps others learn and helps us all
retain knowledge…please emphasize this at home! Thank you for
supporting our music program!
P.E.: We are learning how to play different styles of
dodgeball! This week, we learned how to play Four Quadrants.
Writing/Computer Lab: Most of us have completed
our personal narratives. We have been publishing like crazy! Please
remind your child that they are due October 27th. The students that have
finished are working on other selections, and will get a new assignment the
first week in November.
Art: We finished up our weaving watercolors,
and they are beautiful! These will be up in the hallway soon!
