Good afternoon! I hope you are doing well! We
have been busy, busy in the 3rd/4th grade room! See
what we have been up to:
Today marked the end of our collections for Operation
Christmas Child! Both groups participated in our box-packing party this
morning. I’m so proud of how hard the kids worked in assembling gift
boxes for children all around the world!
Religion-We have begun talking about our Heavenly
Father this week and His AMAZING power and love. We have been discussing
Creation the last couple of days and will complete a fun art project depicting
it next week.
Memory for next week:
November 15-THE THIRD COMMANDMENT
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
November 18-What does this mean? We should fear and
love God so that we do not despise preaching and His Word, but hold it sacred
and gladly hear and learn it.
Math-3rd grade just tested over subtraction with
borrowing this week, and will begin multiplication next week! :) We
will be learning the basic skill, as well as our mad minutes will begin to be
multiplication as well. Please work with your child at home at memorizing
their facts. (Flash cards/computer games) Thanks for your help with
this! 4th grade is working with multiplying longer numbers and
numbers with zeroes. We are all learning so much!
Language Arts-This week, we focused on finding verbs
in our written work. Next week, the whole class will read some selections
about the first Thanksgiving, and will have the same set of spelling
words. We will not test over these until Tuesday, November 22nd.
I am sorry that I was behind a few weeks on the spelling words online.
They are updated. Please look there to study the spelling words ahead of
time! We will begin cursive next week. :)
Social Studies-We “traveled” to Washington, D.C., and
have learned about the Jefferson Memorial and the White House. Next week,
we will learn about the House and Senate and how a bill becomes a law. We
will even create some of our own! We will also learn about the first
Thanksgiving and adopt a Native American or Pilgrim name. Next week, our
learning will be so much fun!
Art-We have learned all about Georgia O’Keefe, her
life, her love of nature, and her beautiful artwork! We created flowers
in the style of Georgia O’Keefe, and have placed this in a collage for our
auction next week.
Writing-We learned about persuasive essays, and read
some samples. We then started planning and drafting our own. These
should be very interesting!
P.E.- We enjoyed playing outside this week!
Music-Please pray for Mrs. Pennington, as she has a
horrible case of poison ivy… :(
Please remember that 3rd grade sings this
weekend!
When:
Sunday, November 13
During the 8:30 and 9:45 am services
Where: Timothy’s North Campus (425 NW R.D. Mize
Road)
Please arrive by 8:20 am. Students sit in the pews by
the piano. They will join their families after we sing. Meet in the
lobby at 9:40 am to sing at the very beginning of the 9:45 am service.
Students will be dismissed after we sing the second time.
What to Wear: Timothy shirt with nice bottoms or dress
clothes (no jeans or shorts, please).
We go to the circus on Friday! If you have not yet
signed up your child to go, please do so! We need to know how many
tickets we will have left over, as we will still have some parents that are
wanting to come. Thank you!
As a culmination of our Thanksgiving Unit and learning about
the first Thanksgiving next week, we will have a Thanksgiving Feast!
(This includes all 3rd/4th students!) This will be
a feast for our class (Pilgrims and Native Americans) during lunch time (and
beyond), but I will need your help, please. We will begin about 11:00, if
homeschool friends can join us early that day. I will make the
turkey, and if you are able, would love help with the rest of the
fixins’! I will send that sign-up on Monday! Thank you!
