Hello, parents! It is
so wonderful to be back at school! I
missed all of the kiddos so very much! It
is my prayer that you had a blessed Christmas and time to relax and have fun
with family and friends. J
It has been a busy week, as we have gotten used to getting
back into the swing of things. We also
have had quite a few coughs and sniffles in here! Hopefully, this weekend, we will all be able
to get well!
*Here is what we have been up to:
Religion-We discussed this week how our bodies are a temple
to the Holy Spirit and discussed ways to take care of our bodies through our
actions, but also with pour thoughts and
attitudes.
Memory for next week:
January 10- THE TENTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant
or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
January 13- What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not
entice or force away our neighbor’s wife, workers, or animals, or turn them
against him, but urge them to stay and do their duty.
Reading/Language Arts—We read about ants and police dogs,
and learned a lot of new, interesting facts!
Third grade book reports are due next Friday, January 13th. Fourth graders’ are due the 31st.
Next week, our Challenge word will be Epiphany. After reading our
church’s “Timothy eNews,” I of course needed to share what Pastor John has
written about epiphany. Please read below:
An epiphany is a
sudden insight and revelation. And that's what we celebrate on Epiphany: the
revelation of God's Son. But this revelation comes with an incredible insight:
God sent His Son to be a Savior for all people. In Jewish literature, magi were
often portrayed as fools who were the enemies of God's people. But here they
come, bringing gifts to the Christ child because they realize that He's there
for them, too. Epiphany is a day for us to remember that Christ isn't just for
us; He's for all people, even those we wouldn't think would deserve it.

Math- Third graders began division! We learned the process of division by using
counters and making groups. We are now
learning how to use the multiplication facts we have learned, as well as our
multiplication charts to helps solve simple division problems. We will add to this next week as we work on
fact families. Fourth graders are
working on division too! They are solving
division problems with a remainder.
Science- We began our science unit! We discussed the Scientific method, and read
about two scientists who made a hypothesis about animals in Madagascar. They then tested their hypothesis, took
notes, and learned a lot of new information.
We began learning about organisms today, and what they are made of, as
well as their needs. We are all so
excited!
Art-We read the true story about Snowflake Bentley, and
looked at some of his photographs of snowflakes. We practiced drawing our own. Then we made beautiful watercolor resist
paintings of snowflakes with watercolors and oil pastels. Our class is in charge of the bulletin board at
the north site this month, so these will be on display there!
Music-Third grade began practicing our song for Lutheran
Schools week, and spend some time reviewing notes and beats, using percussion
instruments. Fourth graders also
practiced their song for Lutheran Schools Week and began learning how to play
the recorder! They are so excited!
P.E.- We learned how to play the basketball games of “Knockout”
and “H-O-R-S-E” this week!
Writing- For writing
this week, we took notes on the story of Snowflake Bentley. We will begin our next writing project next
week: A Research Paper!
