Hello! We have had another great week!
Here are a few announcements:
*There are several more changes to our calendar. I apologize! There was a mix-up at the School of Economics, so now our field trip is planned for April 24th, instead of this winter! That gives us some time to prepare! We are also switching the date when we will present Chapel here at the school. We are now going to host Chapel on October 18th. :)
*Saturday, September 16 - Fall Fun Fest Parade - We will again have a float in the parade. We will meet between 9:00-9:30 between 17th Street and Thomas Ultican Elementary, entry #23.
*Friday - Sunday, September 15-17 - We are sponsoring Fall Fun Fest parking. Please consider volunteering. All proceeds go to our school. Sign up below!
*Monday, September 18 - Picture Day
*Mid-terms will go home with your child next Friday, September 22nd. These grades will be an indication of your child’s progress after the first five weeks of the grading period. They are not the final quarter grades and are not recorded on their permanent records. The grades are intended only to show the student’s progress at this point and to indicate areas where he or she may have to spend more time studying. Thank you!
*Timothy Lutheran Church is sponsoring a program called “Keep Them Safe.”
Ages: 5-14
Date: September 23rd
Time: 8:00am – 12:30pm

Here is what we have been up to this week:
Religion- We have been digging into God’s Word and learning all about His amazing gifts! We studied Abraham and Isaac and discussed Abraham’s awesome faith. We tested over Unit 1 today, and will begin Unit
2 next week.
On September 11th, we discussed the horrific events of that day sixteen years ago, but we also talked about how God loves us, how He is in charge, and how we are NEVER separated from His LOVE. We used the verse below for inspiration to create collages.
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~Romans 8: 37-38
At chapel on Wednesday morning, we focused on how God sends us out to help others. This fits so perfectly with our monthly mission project - we can HELP those affected by Hurricane Harvey in Houston!! Send in any change you have for our chapel offerings each week -OR- keep searching for sponsors for our Walk-a-Thon that takes place on Friday, September 29 (just a few weeks away!).
Language Arts- We continued with Literature Circles and had our first meetings and jobs this week. It was so fun for me to witness these groups of four kids sit and around and discuss a book they love! They were learning from one another, and asking thought-provoking questions. It made me smile! We will finished Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing next week and will continue with jobs. They will have a comprehension test over the book on Friday. We reviewed the cursive letters of i, e, u, t, j, and p this
week.
Math- We worked with rounding, estimating, and adding with longer numbers. They are doing great--as much of this chapter is review. We will work with longer subtraction and regrouping next week before getting into multiplication!
Social Studies- This week, we learned about the events of September 11th. We also began Chapter 2 in Missouri History. We will discussing the regions in Missouri, as well as study maps of landforms, rivers, bordering states, etc.
SPECIAL CLASSES
Art- We painted our expressionist horizon pictures! They are beautiful and are hanging in the hallway!
Writing/Computer Lab-We published “The Best Part of Me,” and then played “Typing Web” on the computers. This is a great program that teaches typing skills.
P.E.-This week we worked more on volleyball skills--passing, setting, and serving. Next week, we will scrimmage! Spanish- Spanish class is reviewing greetings, calendar, our names, and numbers 0-30. Today we learned about the Spanish flag.
We are beginning to feel like such a team in here! Today, we decided to make a class cheer to say after prayers and devotions everyday! I love the family we have in 4th grade!
