Fourth Grade News

Hello!  It has been a fun week!
Here are a few announcements:
*There are still yearbooks from last year in the office, if your child would like one.  They are for sale for $13.
*Please keep in mind our new service project.  We are adopting a sister Lutheran School, Lutheran South Academy (LSA), in Houston, Texas.  LSA has over 850 students, Pre-K through 12th grade.  Their campus was completely flooded by Hurricane Harvey.  We will be having a Walk-A-Thon on September 29th, here at school, to help raise funds.  Paperwork went home last week.  All funds collected will go towards the Lutheran South Academy Hurricane Relief Fund (see link below).
*FALL FUN FEST is coming up!  – September 15-17
Timothy Lutheran participates in many aspects of Blue Springs’ Fall Fun Fest.  It is a great opportunity for us to show a presence in the community.
1. Fall Fun Fest Parade: Saturday, September 16
Please plan to join our school float in the parade.  Everyone is welcome!  We are entry #23, located between 17th and Thomas Ultican. Please be there between 9:00am – 9:30am.
2. Fall Fun Fest Parking: Friday-Sunday, September 15-17
A friend of Timothy offers his business parking lots for Timothy Lutheran School to use as a fundraiser.  Families are asked to work at the parking lots, collecting a parking fee from FFF guests.  This is an easy fundraiser for our school.  Please plan to participate.  We will be sending a sign up genius for volunteers!   THANK YOU!

Here is what we have been up to this week:
Religion- We talked about Abram and Lot, and how God blesses people through trials.  We discussed the commandments and their meanings, and what to do when we struggle with them and fail.  We have such a loving God that gives us forgiveness daily!  We are still working on our ABC Book of Blessings.

Language Arts- We began our first Literature Circles!  We have read chapters 1-2 of Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and have had fun meeting in groups to discuss the book.  We will continue this story next week.  We also talked about sentence structure and learned how to divide sentences into subjects and predicates.
Math- We tested over Chapter 1, and began Chapter 2 this week--a review chapter over longer addition and subtraction, and the vocabulary that accompanies it.

Social Studies- We played Missouri Jeopardy today and then we took our Chapter 1 test!  I am so proud at all that the kids have learned so far this year. :)   We shared our Oral history interviews on Wednesday and we learned so much from those too… THANK YOU to those of you that helped with that!  We are going to continue with Chapter 2 in Missouri History before we movie onto a Science unit. In this chapter, we will learn about the regions in Missouri, as well as study maps of landforms, rivers, bordering states, etc.

SPECIAL CLASSES
Art- We studied primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, created a color wheel with tempera paint, and then began an Impressionistic style horizon picture.  We will continue these on Tuesday.
Writing- We published “The Best Part of Me,” and have almost completed our project.  I am SO excited about the completion of this...and am excited to share it with you!  Next week we will write Bio-Poems and publish them in the Computer Lab.
P.E.-This week we worked on volleyball skills--passing, setting, and serving.  We will put these skills together next week for some fun drills and game situations!
Spanish-  For the month of September, Spanish class is reviewing greetings, calendar, our names, and numbers 0-30. We will begin working in our workbooks.

It was another fun week in 4th Grade Land!  Thanks for sharing your most prized possessions with me!
Have a fabulous weekend!
Blessings,

Kim
