It's Friday! :)

Dear Parents,
We have had a great week!  The kids were AMAZING at the Christmas program on Sunday!  I was so very proud of them, as they shared the most important message in the world.  We are so blessed!  Thank you for coming and celebrating with us.

I was able to see our sweet Morgan skate this last weekend, too.  She was a wonderful Snoopy and did a fantastic job!

Next week, we have such a short week!  Please see the special notes below about it:
Monday-We will have a day full of getting things accomplished—finishing up our Religion and Science units, working on our personal narratives, and working on Christmas cards for friends at the nursing home.

Tuesday-We will have our 10 Commandment Test first thing in the morning (matching).  We will leave for Lunar Bowl at 8:40, and will return by 11:30, to have lunch.  Around 12:30, we will leave to go to Benton House to sing Christmas Carols to the residents, and will return to school about 2:00.  Afterwards, we will have some fun in the classroom! A few students have not returned the permission slip or the money for bowling. Please return by Monday.  Thank you so much!

Wednesday-We will begin the day with our Christmas Chapel, and then will come back to our classroom for our Polar Express Party!  Please allow your kiddo to wear PJs to school.  They can wear slippers and bring a pillow and blanket too.  Please just be sure to send tennis shoes, because we will take a break to run around.  There will be the movie, hot chocolate, and candy canes!  I am SO looking forward to this fun together before we dismiss for break!  This class is so amazing!  We dismiss at 1:00 on Wednesday.

Here is what we have been up to this week:
Religion- We learned a lot about Solomon and the temple that he build for God.  We read Scripture discussing the materials used, and how the people used their talents to help.
Language Arts- We read the story “Me and Uncle Romie,” which is a narrative about Romare Bearden, a 20th century African American collage artist.  We learned a lot about his paintings, and painting-style, as well as the importance of preserving heritage, and memories.  We also worked with idioms and quotation marks this week.
Math-You may have heard grumblings or shouts of joy at home, but we learned how to do LONG DIVISION this week!  This is such a hard concept…but we all have it down, as of today!  I told the kiddos that we would not move on until all 8 “light bulbs” had gone on, and we mastered that today!  We will continue working on this skill next week and after Christmas Break until we are ready to move on!  Yay!
Science- We completed lesson 3, where we talked about classifying plants.
Art- We finished your Christmas gifts!  When we return after break, we will work on collages, in the style of Romare Bearden.
Music-We practiced the Christmas carols that we will be singing next week at Benton House.
P.E.-This week, we worked with dribbling and passing.
Writing-We began publishing our personal narratives.  We cannot wait to share these with you!

Have a GREAT weekend!

God’s Blessings,
Kim

Bryce shared about his trip to Germany with a journal entry and amazing pictures!

Our Morgan was Snoopy in a "Charlie Brown Christmas" last weekend.  We are SO proud of you, Morgan!

We love Peanuts!
